Expansion? Where? The Emmerson Business Park backs up on both the CN Sportsplex and the old Victory Industrial Park, I don't know where there would be room. There also isn't really the need to expand. There's a bunch of empty lots in there.......

Radio-Canada is reporting that BMM test labs will be adding 1000 new jobs in Moncton over the next 5 years including engineers, IT specialists and quality control people. This could be a significant boost to the economy for the region and the whole province. Lets hope they follow through!!

Here's the English CBC article:

BMM Testlabs plans 1,000 jobs in Moncton over 5 years
International gaming testing laboratory will hire quality assurance testers, computer scientists and managers
CBC News Posted: Sep 24, 2015 11:28 AM AT| Last Updated: Sep 24, 2015 11:28 AM AT

BMM Testlabs is planning to create 1,000 jobs in the Moncton area over the next five years, the company announced on Thursday.

Martin Storm, the company's president and chief executive officer, made the announcement with Premier Brian Gallant.

The corporate statement did not release any details about any provincial financial contributions.

The jobs will include quality assurance testers, engineers, computer scientists, business development managers and project managers.

BMM is a gaming testing lab that operates in Canada, Spain, Australia, South Africa and in South America.

The Moncton facility is the only operation in Canada.

That will give them a workforce in Moncton of 1,200 people, easily one of the largest employers in the city. They're going to need a new building.

I was thinking the same. Currently BMM is renting space in that suburban building at the corner of Dieppe blvd and Englehart street. They'll at least need to rent out a huge amount of space or build their own facilities. A shinny new building downtown would be nice but I suspect that this kind of operation is better suited to suburban facilities with large floor plates rather than downtown office type buildings.

Emmerson Business Park might be a good solution for them.

Update from CBC:

Quote:
The company's president also said he hopes to sit down with local mayors to discuss the need for a large building or campus to house the new employees.
So, it sounds like BMM wants a bidding war between the three local mayors to see who really wants the new corporate campus built in their community.

A friend of mine a work suggested Moncton High. That could really work, and MHS would likely be big enough for them, but the costs of bringing the building up to speed in terms of wiring etc might make it impractical.

Still, it's a thought and it should be explored.

It's strange Unless Minacs is expanding again there are no extra Call center jobs in Riverview...

The CEO of MMT is speculating on either a single new large building or a "campus like" environment.

Either way, I imagine they will likely opt for a suburban business park location. If they opt for a campus, I think the Emmerson Business Park would be ideal.

They've already rezoned the section of Emmerson bounding Vaughan Harvey as suburban commercial to allow for restaurants, banks etc. If several new buildings with over a 1,000 well paid employees suddenly set up shop in the park, I imagine those suburban commercial lots might develop really quickly.........

It wasn't really an announcement about anything. Gallant was attending a conference about the future of the contact centre industry. The industry in Moncton however is apparently quite healthy overall. There are 9,000 people employed in the industry in Moncton, half of the total amount in NB.

Wow, that's more than I would have thought. It's unfortunate that it's such a volatile industry.

Not so volatile in Moncton. Most of our call centres are reputable and have been around for years (Exxon/Mobile, Fed Ex, Purolator, UPS, Royal Bank, Tangerine Bank, VIA Rail, Fairmont Hotels, Numeris etc). Most of the volatile call centres do contract work. Once the contract is up, the jobs are lost. We have a few of these (like Minacs), but thankfully most of our centres are in house ones.

Hopefully one of the benefits of the low loonie is that it makes our contract centres more attractive to US customers.

I was using http://geonb.snb.ca/geonb/, and realized something when I looked up the Block at 25 Dominion St. on the site all 28 or 29 addresses are still listed, and not just 25 Dominion except on closer inspection it's listed as one lot with 1 PID. Same thing with the Old Mental Health building at the corner of Gordon, and Dominion. I'm wondering since all the addresses are still listed do they keep the old PID's somewhere in case someone redivides the lot or are they placed back into the system for when someone subdivides a property, or just trashed. I find it strange.

I would also like to point out I was told by multiple Real Estate agents that they would never allow someone to build a neighborhood so close to Route 15. This was before Worthington Ave, and even after the city allowed those houses to be built that close I'm now being told they would not allow it again. I noticed while making my way down Ryan St. while waiting for the Bus to turn onto Hilldergard There where what I believe to be land surveyors behind Senese St. I seen these guys working in the area between Westbrook Circle, and The Highway last at the start of Last week.

There's certainly a set-back of some kind but you can do a lot to address highway noise with trees, berms, and sound walls if need-be. There are lots of places in the city where residences are closer to Rt 15 than where you've mentioned. Look at Highlandview Drive and all of the older part of Dieppe built right along the highway.

I'd expect it's even worse in places like near the Moncton Hospital where you don't get any kind of cover at all between neighborhoods and the highway.

I know they built sound fencing in Fredericton along Rt 7 a few years ago but I don't really recall any kind of movement to deal with highway noise here...

Check it out folks, looks like the Google Maps street view vehicle was in Moncton very recently. New street view updates now except satellite view.

My suspicion is that Moncton has been added to the list of regular-update cities by Google meaning that most arterial routes will be updated promptly every year or so. Halifax was added to this list last year (All NS has coverage from 2009, 12, and some 14 while HRM has it from 2015) and Moncton looks like the first NB city on the list (NB has coverage 09/13, Moncton has 15).

I think your right. But it may also have to do with the amount of errors that where flagged by users as well.
