Of the two names ... Vessel is much better than The Staircase.

"But a Related rep told 6sqft that  *Vessel* —and, apparently, “New York’s Staircase”—were intended as placeholders, and that “[w]e’re excited to have the public help us with a name.”

Yeah, it hasn't been named yet. They've always said Vessel wouldn't be a permanent name.

And neither is "the Staircase" apparently, if you believe the quote and article.

Chicago's most famous public interacive sculpture is known by most as "The Bean" even though that's not its' name... I would assume that regardless of what they name it, it will likely be colloqually known as something else. In this case I think that something else is likely to be the "Beehive"...

That said, i think the "Beehive" would make a good official name too. Or something along the lines of "Flights" ...

so the elevator for people in wheelchairs and others who can't climb literally just drops you off on the landing of each successive level and then you just...look around and wait to be taken back down? those people will also sort of be on display for the rest of the crowd enjoying the climb, penned in, in a sense.
