Thanks for the scoop MTL, glad there's still some minor shred of hope with this one. Downtown Montreal needs this tower to help complete the rather diminutive Rene-Levesque canyon.

I noticed they're saying the building will have 28 floors...let's hope it stays in the ballpark of 100m.

Really hoping this development doesn't get canned. It looks like a really interesting project. Any updates on timelines for municipal hearings?

Just walked by it today and didn't see any signs in the window advertising the project. Doesn't look very promising

This eyesore of a building will be converted into a Sixty Hotel by 2016, in collaboration with Point Zero.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully this time it's a go. However when this is finished and opened for business, then I will believe it.

that timeline makes it highly unlikely that we'll see more than a renovation. i.e. that addition is surely toast. still, better an hotel than an empty building. and in montreal at this point in time, removing even lower grade office space from the market helps stabilize things.

Sixty has partnered with design firm ICRAVE and Canadian architecture firm, NEUF architect(e)s to help them redevelop an existing building but they will be keeping things fairly small in Montreal with only 120 guest rooms and suites. However, there are plans for about 70 branded luxury residences to be attached as well.

the hotel will make a big impact with its indoor and outdoor rooftop bar and pool, the first of its kind for Montreal.
the old building will look like a new one.

Not exactly blown away by this. This was a hotel before and now it will house a hotel again.

the outdoor rooftop bar and pool that's the first of its kind in montreal... except for the hotel de la montagne (very recently demolished to make way for the ogilvy expansion) which operated a rooftop bar and pool for several decades.

speaking of the hotel de la montagne, reading this makes me feel very sad indeed: http://cultmontreal.com/2012/09/five...e-la-montagne/

in my early 20s, like hanging with all the flirty married women in town on business from america and quebec city and calgary and that, just drinking and getting into trouble on like a tuesday. damn, had some great times on those premises. does anyone know where all those types stay now? there isn't another hotel bar like it that i know of, does anyone else know?

Montreal SSP members had at least one "Smoked Meet" (Gathering) atop Hotel de la Montagne.

^I had my first drink-session on top of Hotel de la montagne at a SSP smoked meet. Good times.

So they're renovating this building and adding 6 floors? Fine, whatever I'll take it.

They could turn it into a 20 storey vertical Wal-Mart and it would be an improvement over what's there now, as long as there is a bit of a retrofit of the exterior. Adding a few floors is an additional bonus. That they are bringing in a budding new, up-and-coming, NYC-based boutique hotel chain is even more of a plus. Even if it doesn't end up being quite as spectacular as what was previously proposed (Point Zero Pullman Hotel), let's be honest: this is still a very positive development. Looking forward to seeing renderings!

Work started on the building a few weeks ago (removal of existing facade)

Unclear how recent this render is, but I don't think it has been posted before:

By fluke, I stumbled upon the site with the entire façade of the building sheared off, this weekend when I was arriving at the Jazz Festival with my sons. Wasn't able to get a pic as I was driving - looking for a parking spot. But I was (pleasantly) surprised to see the project was finally underway. Mazel tov! This one was a long time coming. Rendering looks pretty decent, considering... anyways a 200% improvement from what was there before.
