Could Collegetown be getting another mid-rise building at the main intersection? Seems a first step is ready to start. From the Ithaca Voice:

^ I don't think that project would fit in Ithaca.

Nice and informative article from the Ithaca Times concerning one of the bigger Ithaca developers over the past few decades, Mack Travis. He has recently written a book detailing some of the ups and downs of his experiences; "Shaping a City"

The article:

https://www.ithaca.com/news/ithaca/s...aad7da634.html

btw, my daughter just ordered it for me for Christmas..........what a surprise.

As the city/county grow, and available land for development in the CBD lessens (due to many current projects), issues such as Tompkins County's space needs will keep arising. The city has encouraged going up instead of out for new buildings, but many Ithacans complain about losing the small town feeling. The fact is that the CBD needs to expand into residential neighborhoods. With that said, here's an article from the Ithaca Voice:

https://ithacavoice.com/2018/12/tomp...fice-building/

Another Voice article covers the city's last planning board meeting of 2018. Again Nimbys vs development rears up in several projects:

https://ithacavoice.com/2018/12/tiny...board-meeting/

Finally a possible big project in Collegetown could be in the future (again from the Voice):

https://ithacavoice.com/2018/12/deve...llegetown-buy/

It's really nice to see the city rebuilding and getting denser in downtown and Collegetown.

A couple of blocks away from the Commons an old school will be turning into more affordable housing (some pics in linked articles, all from the Ithaca Voice).

A proposal for the West State Street corridor between downtown and the West End will be reviewed by the city Planning and Development Board tomorrow. More info in this Ithaca Voice article including some sketch renderings:

https://ithacavoice.com/2019/01/visu...reet-corridor/

Expanding the density!

An addition to the post above.

The West End is on the left side, and downtown is to the right. The rectangle shows the areas involved:

And this is roughly the configuration of the projects. The first rendering is on the right (green rectangles), and the second one is on the right (the red rectangles):

A couple of articles from the Ithaca Voice.

The first is a summary of an ongoing saga of a car dealer trying to expand and get a new facility opened:

A project on South Hill which had languished in limbo, but might have a new life:

A project on a tough site for building is getting some push back from neighborhood residents.

From the Ithaca Voice:

https://ithacavoice.com/2019/02/neig...k-development/

Hopefully the plan similar to the one pictured will get through.
