Edmonton 15-16 December Photos from my trip

I have mixed feelings about Edmonton as there are some things i like about it and others that i don't. To start off with i must say that i like the weather as it's always nice and cold, when i arrived it was a balmy -23C sunny, blue skies and lots of snow on the ground. One thing i have noticed that i didn't like straight away was how the downtown area is planned - Jasper avenue is far too wide and there are too many cars going through, so sometimes it feels like walking on a highway, i think it should downtown areas should be more pedestrian friendly and have some areas where cars are not allowed. Apart from that i noticed that downtown living is still a new concept and they are just starting to build lots of condos. The suburbs in Edmonton are just lovely and the houses are huge, i think if i lived there i would be enticed to get a nice house in the suburbs. There are also lots of parks where one can go and take long walks. The old strathcona area is quite nice and i can already imagine how busy it probably gets in summer when all the restaurants put tables outside. All in all it was an interesting city to visit, but i don't know if i would want to live there.

Beautiful photos! Thanks so much for posting!

When you mentioned Whyte ave (which is not downtown), did you really mean Jasper?

Also, if you think downtown condo living is new to Edmonton, you should visit a U.S. city of similar size.

You have to be one tough dude (or crazy) to walk around outside all day in the cold weather! I'm impressed!

+1

Even cities like Austin which have invested lots into urban living, it is still a new concept of the past decade.

(left my actual comment in the a-m one)

West Edmonton Mall
This is one of the biggest malls in north America. There is a hotel, a water park with slides, an ice ring, a sea lion show, and several huge pirate ships in the water and lots of shops of course

That's a pretty common feeling in this city - ha ha. But Edmonton is good to most people who live here, and why a lot of people I know have moved away only to happily return, or they simply came here for an opportunity and then chose to stay.

Great photos!

You'll be happy to know that the city if currently looking at revitalizing Jasper Avenue - narrowing it from 7 to 5 lanes, and increasing the size of the sidewalks in order to better accomodate pedestrians.
