The building is now below street level, with the basement almost gone. It just officially became the fourth tallest building to ever be destroyed in New York and the rest of the world.

Ah. I always forget about that one. It was very Houston-esque.

Actually, this would be the fifth tallest destroyed or demolished in NY and the world behind 1 & 2 WTC, Singer Building and the original 7 WTC.

I hate the boxes in New York, At least the new WTC will be more than two giant boxes.
(No offensiveness intended) I really did hate the DBB anyway. It is unfortunate that 9/11 had to happen.

To this day, the video of the attack still shocks me.

I promise you, we will never forget.
No matter how many decades move us forward, too many people have lost their lives for living the NY life.

May this (former) tower rest in peace.

When I worked at Marsh across the street at the WTC, I used to have meetings with the IT department of DB on the 30th/31st floor of this building (we did business with them). It was nothing special; just a big office building.

You worked at Marsh, as in Marsh & McClennon? My mom used to work there, but out of the Pittsburgh office which at one point was on the 55th floor of the US Steel Building. She went to a luncheon at Windows on the World in 1991. I remember her telling me about taking a taxi cab over the Brooklyn Bridge from JFK airport.

Anyway, isn't a new building going to be built in its place? Or isn't a new building at least proposed for it? I seem to remember there being a 5th tower proposed in its place, a rather controversial one at that if I'm not mistaken...

I'm so happy this building is gone. Even before 9/11 it was ugly, but the damage and the way it was simply covered up by tarp made me want to cry just looking at it. It put up a huge fight, but now it's laid to rest forever. I just hope the new tower will not look so out of place as the old one did.

The building that is replacing 130 Liberty Street is Five World Trade Center.

Yeah, Marsh and McLennan. I was an employee of the company from 1998 to 2002, left Marsh because of 9/11, and also because I moved back to California and wanted to start over again.

I worked on the 99th floor with the desktop support group.

If you were given the chance would you work in the new World Trade Center?

Probably. I went to work in the original WTC after the '93 bombing, went into work every morning fully aware that the building was a giant target. It's just something you deal with and put in the back of your mind. Can't be any different for people that work in other iconic structures, like the ESB, Chrysler, Sears Tower, etc.

But the fear is always there, hanging over your head like the sword of Damocles.

I had a planned business trip, which would have included a stop at the towers for the week of 9/11, fortunately it was cancelled the Friday before our Monday flight.
