Yeah, I can totally see why Canadians think corruption only exists in the belle province (that is sarcasm, btw).

The reality is that most folks (probably 90%+) simply don't think about most subjects and have little to no knowledge on the most basic of subjects whether that be chemicals (natural stuff is always best - like arsenic) or crime (hey my kid might be kidnapped in Québec City but hey my daughter will be fine spending two months on an exchange in Mexico - actual real conversation that I had this week - ironically said daughter's city bus was hit by a car on the first day of school which shows where the real danger actual lies)

Anyway, on a lighter note - There has been a murder in Saint-Lambert de Lauzon which is on the southern edge of the city of Levis (part of Greater Québec City). However, it appears that this is not part of the city and is being investigated by the SQ (regional police force). Lucky for Levis, because that would have been two murders in one week for the city (which hadn't had a murder for 15 years).

Don't shoot the messenger. I was speaking of perceptions, not reality.

Of course there is a racial element to these perceptions as well, unfortunately.

Saskatoon with 3 murders to date in 2017 and Regina with 5 is closer to average per capita compared to other Canadian cities but its not uncommon for Saskatchewan cities to get lumped in with rest of Prairies, with Calgary's ~20, Winnipeg's 20+ or Edmonton's 30+ murders to date.
I think Saskatchewan suffers from same flying-under-radar unless something exceptionally criminal resets barometer on Canadians perception of the province, rightly.. but more likely wrongly.

5 murders in Regina is, per capita, the same as 25 murders in Calgary, because Calgary is roughly five times its size.

5 murders in Thunder Bay is equivalent to 15 murders in Regina and 75 in Calgary. And 300 in Toronto.

People don't get randomly killed here, though. All of our homicides are either abusive spouses, homeless people, or gang members.

^ AND Saskatoon's 3 as compared to Edmonton's 30+murders is completely disproportionate considering Edmonton city population is only 3 times larger than Saskatoon, not ten times larger..
most of murders in Saskatchewan aren't random either, large percentage of time victims know the perpetrator.

As a general rule, people don't get randomly murdered anywhere in Canada.

Two more for Edmonton, 36 now I think ? Losing track. A toddler died in an arson fire on the south side and a prostitute was killed by her pimp on the west end

Very often. Random murders definitely happen, but they are very much in the minority.

July and August 2017 totals both up over 2016. Looks like Canada could be in for an increase this year.

Apparently an elderly man was randomly shot & killed through his front door just north of downtown Edmonton last night, bringing Edmonton to 37

A high number but to be fair two of those are police shootings where the suspect had a weapon so not quite "murders".

Like I said, it's all anecdotal. Edmonton does show up less in the media, both national and international, and I've never seen it on one of those global ranking lists. Lots of Edmonton forumers on here are agreeing with that as well. Anyway, not trying to start anything, just posting what I notice based on an article I found odd.
I've come across a few reports looking at things like comparing transit systems across Canada that include only 5 cities - excluding Edmonton. Always seems exceptionally strange to me.

Looks like Edmonton will hit 40, as another man was killed in the same rooming house in central Edmonton in 2 weeks, and another man found stabbed to death in the city's north east.

Ottawa is now at 12.

Shooting in broad daylight in the city's inner and older suburban ring, to the southwest of the core.

Not the nicest part of town but there was a bunch of kids in a playground just a hop away when it happened.
