Outside of McDavid every forward has performed very poorly thus far. Shot quality has not been very good, and the team has completely forgotten how to play defensively. Take Carolina's first goal, all three forwards below the goal line in the O Zone, and then the D pinches. WTF is that? It's a 2-1 before Carolina is even out of their own end. Brutal.

If the oil continue to play like a bush league team, the chances they make the post season are less than favorable. I mean, Chicago is their next game. I just hope they don't get horribly embarrassed by the Hawks.

Saw Montreal is leading the league in shots... and last in the league in goals, equating to a 3.9% scoring rate.

Obviously that will normalize before the end of the season, but when Claude was fired lots of Bruins fans said that he was the best at generating useless shots. Might've been a system that worked with the hard-grinding Bruins back in 2011. They were one of the best forechecking teams I've ever seen and could crash the net and generate second chances from weak initial shots. Perhaps the league has progressed and rendered Julien's style obsolete.

Another element of luck last night. They had 4 goals on 5 shots to start the game and the Wings were out playing them. Now that said they were on a back to back.

Also saw this interesting stat about NHL players' birth months.

It echoes what a lot of people in minor hockey have been saying for awhile. A January birthday makes you 10% older than a December baby at age 10. This can lead to significant advantages in size and development in the most formative years when kids are beginning to pursue more serious leagues.

This suggests that our hockey development system is very flawed and we are not maximizing the available talent. The chart is shocking as far as the differential between January and December births.

There are bigger flaws at play than simply when kids are born (see: cost, coaching, general developmental policies).

Funny reading two Leafs fans talking about the same game.

If that happened it would be a turning point for the Oilers, usually a good drubbing embarrasses everyone and they pick it up after.

Don't worry many games left. Maybe your team will improve where you can stop making fun of Leaf fans.

That and there are a lot of players from the first ten years of the NHL where a lot of players don't have birthdays recorded on their stats card.

Good that you have finally came to that realization. Just a month ago, you jumped on me when I said the Habs were going to be the worst team in the league.

It's been 2-3 years that I repeat the success of the team was mainly based on 2 players, Subban and Markov. And surprise, surprise look at the results when they are not with the team anymore.
Even without having watched any games, I can tell you what's going on: No transition-->no attack. Slow defenders (with low IQ)--->not even Price can save the situation.

BTW-Good to see Nashville back on track.
