Here is a news report. The only contradiction in the report is that Wipro has become operational two years ago not one year. And one of the buildings of Wipro campus near Thapasya is ready for occupation. The works of other buildings are going on in full swing. In another six months the wipro campuses will be fully operational

Wipro to expand Kochi facility

Kochi , Feb. 6

SOFTWARE major Wipro Ltd expects its Kochi unit to generate $500-$600 million in exports by 2010 when the facility will have around 8,000 people.

"Kochi will be one of the four main centres for Wipro's product engineering," said Mr Rajesh Ram Mishra, Vice-President and Business Head, Embedded and Access Solutions Division of Wipro Technologies.

The company began its operations in Kochi a year ago. It operates out of two buildings at Infopark, a state-owned IT infrastructure in the outskirts. The company has 200 people in Kochi, engaged in developing technologies in the areas such as Very Large System Integration, embedded software and data warehousing.

Mr Mishra said Wipro would soon start building its own campus in a 25-acre plot within Infopark.

The reason it is mentioned one year is because the news is a year old.... it is dated.. Tuesday, Feb 07, 2006...

also note the date here.. next time this might make it easier for you to date items.. http://www.blonnet.com/2006/02/07/stories/2006020702160400.htm

Sahara group eyes Kochi

KOCHI: The Sahara group plans to set up a township in Kochi on the model of Amby Valley lake city of Mumbai. The township is planned in an area of nearly 100 acres with self-contained facilities, said Levensia D'Souza, partner of Sri Adisankara Developers, which is acquiring the land for the group at Thoothiyur in Kakkanad in Kochi.
Great find Bhasid !! This news is on Sahara Grace itself !!
100 acres means it must have something like 8-9 million sqft. So that confirms
Sahara Grace.

While I'm talking about another one. There are several infrastructure companies
in the Sahara fold. There is one called SaharaCityHomes. Its website announces
the following project http://www.saharacityhomes.com/cochin.asp

Both projects from sahara are coooooooooool! Sahara Grace is really massive...

B/w they could have done a bit better with that location map...They have even messed up the place names. Too bad for such a reputed company.

I agree. Typically every company is sloppy when it come to location map. It is very very
difficult to locate the project from wikimapia or such tools, unless you are on ground. In fact, local enthusiasts do a better work on wikimapia. It is from there that we know the location
better. But for that you have to be a local.

Obviously they Saharcityhomes have got sanction. The units are already on sale.

Sahara Grace seem to have got sanction as it is an older project. Even by the most stingy FAR of 2 they will get sanction for 8.8 million sqft on
the 100 acres they possess. And the total area of the current phase is only 2.3 million sqft.
So no problems

Ernakulam District highest among the land transactions in the state and the highest payer of stamp duty. This is because of the arrival of Smart City, Container terminal etc

It is really great that in spite of lowering the FAR projects are coming up in Kochi. Since the city is happening because of a number of huge projects in pipeline, low FAR will not be a bottleneck in the development. If we go to Kakkanad area we can see a lot of construction taking place there specially near Infopark and at Vazhakkala and Padamugal.

Once the FAR is increased there will be a lot more of projects coming up. I strongly wish that the builders once more agitate and give a petition to High Court.

Wonderful !! Looks like it will have to be over 27-30 floors to accomodate that many units
in 8 towers. Mouthwatering stuff.

KMC, can you get some info on Sahara Grace from your KBF friend.
They seem to have large amount of land in possession. What are they going to do
on the rest of the land. Since the location of land is Kakkanad, it is really making me restless

Bhasid, Scorpio

watch this page for Sahara group infrastructure companies.
Sahara grace is by Sahara India Commercial Corporation Ltd
while Tripunithra project is by Sahara City Homes.

Thanks for the link nik.
Builders from all over the country are making a beeline for Cochin. It will only make business better for the local builders, and not difficult, as widely percieved. Cochin will be marketed better on national and international scene, which eventually will be better for the housing industry in the city as a whole. Just think of it, major players like mather, abad and co is now referred to as local companies because of the entry of Sahara, DLF, Prestige and the like...lol And 8 and 10 storied apartments are termed small projects!!
Plz showcase our small players also in this thread guys[and gals]...here is one..

Two boat jetties getting ready Tourism trail

Rendering of the same

Any Updates on this one?? (Photos??)

NEW FACILITIES: The area near the main boat jetty in Ernakulam where a parking lot and tourist amenities have been planned.

KOCHI: Backwater tourism in Kochi is all set to get a boost, with two boat- jetty terminals nearing completion at Marine Drive.

The integrated tourist-boat jetty near the Rainbow Bridge and a terminal in place of the Ernakulam main boat jetty will be ready in two months. The Union Government has sanctioned Rs. 160 lakh for each project.

While the tourist jetty can berth 12 big and as many small boats, the integrated jetty can accommodate eight each of them. Both ferry and tourist boats will operate from the latter. A high-ranking official in the Tourism Department said that a tourist-amenity centre had been planned alongside the jetty. People would be able to book taxis and boats at the centre.

“A parking centre for 150 cars and a shopping centre are in the offing. An estimate of Rs. 150 lakh will soon be submitted to the Tourism Department,” said M. Balachandran, Executive Engineer, Central Public Works Department, which is executing the works. District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish said that all unauthorised jetties protruding into the backwaters from Marine Drive would be removed once the tourist-boat jetty is ready. “A comprehensive master plan is being readied to make the entire Marine Drive stretch a green lung,” he said. An area near the main boat jetty may be converted into a hub like the Durbar Hall Ground.

Small projects are vitally important as they provide the common man who is ultimately
the maker of all. In fact there has to be an even ground for small players and biggies
to ensure that one does not hinder the other.

Also we have stopped listing projects with less than 15 floors. There are just too many of them that the forum will look cluttered. Besides there are so many mega projects
that people more interested in tracking them.
