BRATTLEBORO, VT | WMFA Tower | 529 FT / 161 M | 40 FLOORS

Looks like a new tallest for the state of Vermont is proposed

Quote:
Above is the Harrison and Abramovitz’s architectural rendering of the proposed WMFA Tower to be constructed in 2010 in Brattleboro, Vermont. The high-rise building, which will be located in the heart of downtown at the intersection of Main Street and Canal Street, will house WMFA offices, affordable housing and studio space for artists, as well as state of the art conference facilities and galleries.

Wow, I wouldn't have expected something like this in Brattleboro. I'd have thought that the tallest would remain in Burlington.

Is this for real?

The last project Harrison & Abramovitz built was 30 years ago.

That's an architectural rendering/source?

that's a rendering? really? the scale's wrong, there's no persective, there's a stupid filter covering the whole image and the building itself looks boring.

I don't believe it. I stayed in Brattleboro a few months ago, and quaint doesn't begin to describe the town.

Now begs the question, is this an instance where a NIMBY response would not only be condoned but supported? The tallest buildings I remember in town are around 5 floors, with simple brick facades that are common in Northeast villages. Anything they build over 15 floors would look out of place for the foreseeable future. Additionally, I believe there there is enough space across town to break apart the project into multiple buildings, multiple functions, while expanding the amount of street level, mixed use space around downtown.

Vermont has always been a bit against the grain. Specifically Brattleboro, which legalized public nudity this summer. I wouldn't be surprised if they follow through with something like this.

Wow, that's something. I look forward to some real renderings of this if it's for real. I'm jealous of Brattleboro.

Next they'll have fat hairy Vermonters walking around...

I haven't been in the center of Brattleboro, but the area around VT 9 is a hole. Maybe the center is better.

But out of place doesn't even begin to describe this, and that rendering has to be the worst ever.

Looks like its time for Chesterfield, NH to build a 530 footer and start this new construction war. I see lots of potential for that there.

Downtown Brattleboro is charming beyond compare given the rich, varied architecture, the terrain and the setting......well worth seeing and like being taken back in time in the most satisfying way.

As such, this tower is not just inappropriate, it's dumber than dirt; hard to imagine that the natives haven't tarred, feathered and driven out of town anybody that proposed such a thing.... it's as absurd as proposing to erect a two story building on a vacant lot on West 54th Street in Manhattan......

It looks like a fax of a photocopy of a grainy ISO cell phone camera photo.

Yeah and the 30 storey building that they did in Toledo is completely vacant, mold infested and full of asbestos. It is now city owned and considered uninhabitable and will cost more to remedy than any return on investment could justify.

Actually, that's the way this looks in the rendering, too.
