From what I've seen over on UP, Tony G has secured financing for The SoBro and there will be an announcement in the next few days. I guess this will be a race to the finish to determines who gets those units filled if both towers are to start construction by the end of the year.

Per another website, we can expect an announcement on another 400+ room, full-service hotel to serve the Music City Center. My bets are on either a Westin or J.W. Marriott branding. I consider the strong rumors of a Ritz Carlton to be the outlier brand.

Indeed, those are all great buildings. Speaking of the Gulch, what ever happened to that hotel by Vision Hospitality Group? I was kinda excited for that project.

The one proposed across from the Yazoo Brewery where the old porn store used to be? If yes, then I've got no clue. There was the announcement and not a word since then.

^^^That's what doesn't make sense to me. Wasn't that announcement directly from the hotel chains itself and not a private developer? I would figure that the hotel chain would have its funding in order and break ground to be the first in the Gulch, but then again, they might have just been purchasing the property to sit on knowing that another chain wouldn't build in the Gulch in the next year or so.

Not sure if anyone has picked this up but this could very well reshape the midtown area of Nashville in the future.

Here's a snippet of the article. The link also has pdf files pertaining to the rezoning changes and proposals. There will also be more discussion in regards to preserving historic areas such as the Elliston Place area that has alot of history behind it....also one of my favorite squeaky holes too!

"Council approves Midtown rezoning
On September 18, 2012, the Metropolitan Council unanimously approved a comprehensive rezoning in the area bounded, approximately, by I–40 to the east, Broadway/21st Avenue/West End to the south, I–440 to the west and Charlotte Avenue to the north. The Planning Commission had approved that rezoning on July 26, 2012."

That was imminent with the MCC making its grand debut next year and with the boom of SoBro. I remember reading an article that they wanted to build a grand entrance on that side also to compliment the MCC which is a very smart move on their part rather then everyone going on the Broadway side whenever there is an event at both locations.

Nashville-based HCA will be announce this morning in a new conference with the governor and mayor of Nashville about a new 900k sq ft development of the West End Summit by the company today and house over 2,000 employees when done. More details will be released later today in the news conference.

This is some crazy news out of nowhere news. Were we just speculating, or was HCA talking about expanding their existing campus? Anyways, any tower of any height is way better than the hole that's there now.

On the other hand...900k sq ft? That's pretty big. Doesn't the Pinnacle only have roughly 525k? If Palmer were thinking about switching to just one tower, that could easily be 35-40 floors.

Anyone think a similar design will appear or will Palmer completely switch it up to get a fresh look?

The same two tower design will remain. Two 20 story towers. Sitting on that hill on West End they will look much taller.

Construction to begin early 2013. So, thats WES, The SoBro, and 12th and Laurel!

The overall design of the project has not changed, just no Intercontinental Hotel and both tower shortened some. Hopefully the retail/restaurant components will be maintained from the original proposal. This will ignite a new fire for midtown as it becomes THE premiere office development in the West End/Midtown market and with the zoning change for midtown, expect things to bubble up quickly.

You're exactly right on that. We've had a big week as far as new tower announcements; now I'm ready to see the infill and smaller projects announced.

Wow! This was probably the last project that I ever expected to be revived, but it looks great! This will really be good for BRT as well.

That zoning change that was approved was just the foundation of what the midtown area will eventually become. Just as long as they dont tear up my beloved watering hole on Elliston Place I am totally fine with that!

Oh and I will miss the Music City Canyon that has resided there since that project stalled. It was quite the lil landmark haha
