What's your opinion of Plaza 88 in New West? I find that it's too much concrete

Spandrel can look good and quite frankly I think it is more a debate of pure opinion as to over-use or not. I don't mind Plaza 88 with its concrete everywhere. But honestly, I have never really taken a long look at it. My view is typically up from the SkyTrain platform as I walk into the Movie Theater to catch a movie. *shrug* We're better off with it than without. Same with this building. I'd rather have it than not even if it is spandreled to the n-th degree.

I take the view that I'll wait to see the building complete to pass my own aesthetic judgement. This building included. Not every building is going to be an architectural masterpiece, especially in areas where builders are trying to keep costs low like Surrey to attract buyers. Not to mention single-purpose residential towers.

We're not in Dubai unfortunately (fortunately?).

It wouldn't be so bad if it was consistently random across each facade - but the straight strips make it look like a mess.

I'm actually loving the mixed spandrel / glass pattern on this. Looks great!

I actually think the building looks okay. Jhausner's analysis is spot on - not every building will be a work of art. I'm just glad that with an addition of this building, as well as others, the area will be different from what it used to be.

This tower is very unique. The randomness of it can make it into art or an eyesore. We need to wait and see how it looks when it is finished.

Like I said all about opinion. I think it looks odd myself with the randomness, not sure what they were going with. But honestly once people move into residential towers you have some windows open, some with the blinds half closed, some with them fully closed so even window only towers start to look random from a distance.

I'll wait until the end to see what it looks like but really *shrug* it's a residential tower to me lol.

The podium looks bad. Hopefully they put more finishes on it.

I hope they'll paint the concrete like the Infinity / Park Place towers. The unpainted concrete of the library and City Hall looks ugly.

I don't know... I actually like the exposed concrete of the library and city hall personally, but I see your point. I do believe that painting the concrete on this particular building would work well if done right.

I love the stone-and-glass look of the library; it's timeless and gritty, yet very modern.

doesn't work on the Bosa building when contrasted with the spandrel though. that just looks unfinished.

I think my personal favourite finish for a building is just across the street from University District. I love the red brick on D'corize, and how it meshes into the concrete and glass of the tower above.

I just wish it had some at-grade retail...

Good eye!

Weird.
Shift's Dec 14th shot has Take 5 Café.
Yellow Fever's shot has Coffee Quirk (unless they were filming a movie and had to cover up the name?)
