I got to tell you, i use to HATE shanghai's skyline, but now thats its getting some real density its up there on my list with chicago and NY.

Personally, there are a few skyline shots of lower manhattan in the 1940s that take the cake. I am just too lazy to search for them at present.

I think there should be a sticky or some kind of graphic explaining the difference between bird's-eye views and skylines. Skyline, as the name suggests, denotes linearity: if you imagine all of the buildings of the photo in shadow, it would be the silhouette they produce against the sky. A picture of a city looking down from an aerial perspective, where the subject is a plane/stretch of buildings-- buildings set against other buildings-- is not a skyline.

LOL. This is a perpetual beef of mine as well.

BTW, here is the original skyline representation, the one which introduced "skyline" into the vernacular to refer to a city (prior to this, "skyline" just meant "horizon"). Charles Graham, Skyline of New York City", 1898:

Certainly not in the same class as the gorgeous shot of Chicago on page 1, but this was a lot of fun to make.
There aren't many spots where you can get a view of many of Shanghai's 'scrapers in a line...
