Oof. Anyone with windows out the back side of 123 Washington is going to be looking at a rather blank wall for the rest of their time there (or until 111 Washington is built, and for it's sake, with a blank wall to 99)

I just noticed this building today peaking above the other towers from my vantage point on Wall St. they were pouring concrete today. I'll try and get some photos as it grows.

My gosh... They are building this building since March and still is not complete. Its footprint is small and his height is low, and have not finished this building?

You're asking why a 500-foot tower wasn't completed in 8 months?

I know nothing about construction, but that doesn't sound like a normal construction timetable. Most towers, even basic towers, take well over a year in terms of construction timetable.

This hotel seems to be going up fairly quickly, IMO.

On one hand, it'd be sad to lose the beautiful church next door to this. On the other, that's the only way to get rid of what looks to become the most heinous blank wall in city. Maybe some facadomy would be in order.

Shouldn't the planning department forbid blank concrete walls that rise to such heights? There should be a requirement to finish these walls in a reasonably inoffensive way with better materials, etc. Planning department in NYC seems inept. They cut down Tower Verre due to aesthetic reasons yet they seem to care little about these more blatantly offensive things like tall blank walls and disgusting eye-sore McSams that are currently ruining the aesthetics of the city in many areas.

Although NYC doesn't like to put too many restrictions on design, I don't think economic development would be hurt by the implementation of a basic aesthetic standard. Developers would be forced to adjust and they would build better buildings.

The only reason they had the opportunity to cut down Verre was because it was not being built of-right. This is, so there's really no say by the planning department. Blank walls like this happen because of lot lines. There were plans for tall buildings on every lot on this block, so that the blank wall would not be terribly visible. It's more of a case if any of the other towers will come to pass, or when. It's also unclear how this blank wall will be finished. I mean, it might end up pleasantly bricked, although I wouldn't put money on it.
