Tucson City Council gives tentative OKs to Hotel Arizona deal and tribal casino plan
According to the Star, the city gave initial approval to the tax incentives that HSL asked for in order to reopen the Hotel Arizona as a 296 room Hyatt Regency. The tax abatement deal still needs to go through economic analysis before it can be formally approved.
The article also stated that "officials have declined to discuss plans" for the land next to the hotel that used to be the parking garage.
City Council also gave conditional approval to an agreement with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe to allow them open a casino at Grant and I-10 where the Century Park movie theater used to be. The tribe owns the land, but have to get the land put into a trust first, so that it can be considered part of their reservation. Other articles have suggested that this could be a multi-year process.
