Major work happening at the base the past couple of days. The sidewalk along 17th Street, most of Arch Street and about 2/3 of JFK is being paved - JFK is being lined with stone. Metal stanchions have been installed along the 17th Street sidewalk (to prevent cars from coming up onto the sidewalk) and fire hydrants are being put into place.

I would have to assume that he intended to say that the streets are being paved and that the sidewalks are being poured. I'm pretty sure that asphalt sidewalks wouldn't be allowed if for some mysterious reason they wanted it that way.

CC public plaza

i remember an article in the Inquire a few months ago(Inga??) that decribed the use of a few different colored granite materials that would pave the plaza. Although only two or three types of granite would be used their appearance would be modified by using rough huned(SP?) and smooth surface treatments to achieve a look of many different types of stone.

They put hours in yesterday. The plaza is paved with granite, doors have been installed on the main entrance and the Arch Street entry (the wood finish of the lobby shines brilliantly at night).

The sidewalk is done in normal cement - not blacktop. Dude.

You mean "rough hewn stone"? That reminds me of the Hancock Center in Chicago, which has a lower-level plaza with a Cheesecake Factory and Jamba Juice. It's also the entry for the observation deck.

Yeah, I was in Chicago last month.

Mon Dieu, Dony, you know me ALL too well. In fact, I'm now on tranquilizers and don't mind the asphalt sidewalks at all - although I do trip a lot.

Hey, what's CC look like below ground? Anyone have any shots of the concourse?

And here's a perverted thought, considering the speculation among some of us regarding the lot at 18th and Arch - can one of you very clever dudes photoshop an imaginary 1300 footer on that lot into a skyline photo showing CC? You know...JUST for fun!

Got a new lens/teleconverter today. Need a little more time to play with it, but here's the one skyline shot I took just now.

Great MJ !!!

Tell me, what camera do you have?

I am hoping on an SLR sometime next year (if my budget allows) - some models can cost up to 10 grand.

Don't worry about 10 grand. You can get a Canon Rebel XT (which is what I use) or something similar for $600 or so (no lens?) these days.

Oh yes, the Canon lineup is what I've been looking at.

Some of their lens just looks absolutely incredible (and costs as much).

Is it just me or are they taking their sweet time on the crown? It just seems to have hit a standstill for the past month...I guess I just can't wait to see the lighting scheme in full.

No no, you can get a nice setup for 1 G, or less. I use a Pentax K100D. Body & kit lens runs about $600, Olympus has a nice camera in the same range, the E-410 EVOLT, Canon's Rebel XT, and Nikon is pushing their entry level D40 a lot lately. All are reasonably priced entry-level DSLRs. But the lenses are what gets you.

photo at the top of this page was taken with my cam while I was out diddling with my new Wide angle lens I got a couple week ago...$400, . See, the lenses are what screw you...

Nice shots, MJ... I can see a bit of difference with the new lens.

I've got the Nikon D40 which is also ~$600 for the body/lens kit. Love it to death, and now I want some new glass.
