That pedestrian bridge between Lucas and Northerly will have to be pretty tall to let those sailboats past, unless it's going to be a drawbridge or they're going to get rid of the private docks.

I'm sure Jeanne Gang will find a clever way to make the bridge fold up. Anyone remember the Starlight Theater in Rockford with that folding roof?

I just had a walk through of AMLI Lofts (Clark and Polk). The units themselves are surprisingly nice. Very high quality finishes and amenities in the building. As for neighborhood aspects, not so great. Though it looks like both buildings have tons of ground level retail, there's only actually one retail space (at the corner) and it's sized for a restaurant. The other building uses all that ground floor space for the leasing office and resident amenities (gym, lounge, yoga). That changes my whole outlook for Clark Street's future.

I still might live there though. For gigabit internet I'd live in a refrigerator box.

^ Did you ever expect otherwise? I always felt that the corner of Clark/Polk would be the only fitting place for retail. I just don't see people walking any further on Clark with it being such a pedestrian-hostile corridor.

I guess I'd hoped they'd be brave enough to try it. If that 9th street underpass ever happened it could be a popular route between RC and the roof park of doom. I really just wanted a closer Starbucks.

9th street underpass would be a good start... but someone really just needs to demolish dearborn park and start over.

That park looks awesome. I've spoken with the project manager, and I have total faith that this park will be totally. fricking. awesome.

YES!! this is exactly what Chicago needs, it will add greatly to the city center parks district. we will have a sculpture park, millinum park, a basic park, grant park, and now a nature park, northerly island

Looking at it almost kind of makes me wish that the long term vision would have been to dress up in a similar manner the adjoining lakefront from south of Solider Field to a demolished Lakeside Center to form one continuous nature park straddling both sides of the harbor.

This page, with the surprise slice of coastal Ireland (New Northerly) and two sweet slices of Brie (cheese pun intended), is one for the record books. I will always remember #1271.

Dominick's Site in Lakeview

From Ald. Tunney:

Quote:
Today the Chicago Plan Commission approved a new Planned Development for 3030 N. Broadway. The site of the former Dominick’s has been vacant since the fire in 2005 and currently serves as a surface parking lot. The new five-story development will include a 71,000 square foot Mariano’s grocery store, a 40,000 square foot X-Sport Fitness, 15,000 square feet of additional retail space and 280 parking spaces.
