Digging a hole is not considered construction. We can move it to under construction when the foundation work begins.

It's a concrete structure, however...

Seriously, my understanding is that the project is still not fully financed...Hopefully, it does soon; otherwise, could come to a hault after caissons...

According to the Buck Company's press releases, it's fully financed.

I'll move it to Under Construction when the tower crane goes up. Okay?

Rode by today and there appears to be no letdown in sight. They are on a mission.

I went past today.
It looks like they are still digging and of course you know the old building is completely gone. It's hard to get a detailed look as you drive past because they have those burlap screens along the street.

In order to get a picture I would have to try to find a parking spot and go in on foot. I don't think there is anything there now that justifies all that effort. When the concrete trucks arrive I’ll get a picture and then we can move this thread.

I'm not sure that the parking deck for the tower is going to be much of a ground level improvement. Shame the economics don't justify digging a below ground garage - i.e. Society Hill Towers or 1706 Rittenhouse.

I hear what you're saying and agree that a sunken garage would have been better, but 1706 Ritt isn't really the best example to bring up for good ground level presence. It presents a fairly solid wall to 17th street that isn't really any better than a ground floor garage. I think a garage podium isn't all that bad so long as it's done well with active uses fronting the street.

I agree that 1706 is not the best example.

In DC and NYC, also Chicago (for the most part), parking is below ground and the street level environment at development projects is generally better. The bohemoth parking deck at 800 Walnut, beneath Wills Eye Hospital and the pending U Penn Medical tower, is a particularly bad deck. The tenants there, a bank, a 7-11 and a Quiznos, reflect the dreary environment.

Philly has a lot of decks - several along West Market St., under the St. James at 7th & Walnut, at 1835 Rittenhouse Square, along the 900 block of Chestnut St and the 1200 block of Walnut St., etc., etc. Hopefully, Philly development economics will one day support below ground lots.
