Downtown Ithaca

This thread will stick mostly with the downtown area. It was decent weather, and done on a Monday and Tuesday.

Let's get started.

This map needs updating.

Start of the Carl Sagan Planet Walk

This truck really screwed up traffic.

Yeah, I touched it.

View from my hotel room

But that view will be changing by my next visit. This building across the street will be replaced with a new 8 story mixed use building.

There is a program for local artists to paint all the electrical boxes

Bikes are a big deal in Ithaca

Looks like he hurt his tail.....

Flags atop City Hall

West side of Aurora Street

East side of Aurora Street

My hotel

Good evening from downtown Ithaca

Looks so pleasant. I could look it up, but what's your take on snowfall in that area? I'm assuming Ithaca doesn't get anywhere near the snowfall that places like Buffalo do (due to lake effect).

I believe the official weather station for Ithaca is up near the airport (hilly area above the city). The average annual snowfall is over five feet. Usually the valley area where downtown is located gets less than the hills. But there's still a lot of snow.

There's a lot of snow but it's too far south for the Lake Ontario snowbelt. Still, it's cold and snowy. Winters are no joke.

I will say that summers are almost perfect, with low-ish humidity and high 70's/low 80's. The dense forests and high elevation help too.

The only really bad things about Ithaca are rough winters, kinda isolated (no freeways and not near anything but forests, lakes and vineyards) and it's pretty small. But culturally and socially it's almost like a mini-NYC or mini-Boston in the wilderness.

I thought a few of those photographs looked like the view from the new Marriott. That was one of the most talked about projects in Ithaca.

It's always great to see this fast-changing city on the forum. It's amazingly beautiful.

Ithaca seems sunny more often then other areas of the finger lakes region. Even in the winter.
