I really hope 1111 sunset Blvd gets built... that development is amazing and would only contribute so much to the neighborhood surrounding it. Did you read the comments?? One guy is already worried about his stupid views. What’s more important... your views or housing people??

It would be so stupid if this gets blocked because of a few selfish idiots.

Yeah the improvements between 5th and pershing sq metro seems permanent... At least for the moment. Now between spring and main still whatever but aye it's a start

And a dumb question but why isn't like all of downtown except for say spring and Broadway zone for 2k height?

And for the record I want the Hispanic stores and peeps to stay downtown for ever... And I wanna see towers of tiny microunits so endless people of all types can live downtown. I just don't want intimating thugs who harass women and everybody else

I am not a huge fan of high-rise development too far away from what already exists. I feel it would be super beneficial in terms of creating a more dense Downtown to keep anything above 10 stories within the boundaries of the 101/10/110. Having a tower here and there outside of it kind of makes for an awkward skyline, in my opinion. Maybe it's a bit of my OCD talking? I dunno.

Actually, I don't agree at all (but it is a matter of taste).

I think that would be perfect for our skyline.

I can't see how it has a negative impact on downtown. LA is already full of non-downtown high rises, both in clusters like Hollywood and Westwood, and also one-offs all over town.

Reality is, these apartments would have some pretty spectacular views.

Totally wild. Be amazing if this actually gets built.

I'm also surprised the dumpy Paradise Motel across the street hasn't been bulldozed and replaced by a chain motel.

tbh, i really like that hotel. it's so retro and old school L.A., part of a city that doesn't really exist anymore.

Design looks garbage. As others have iterated, looks dated. Dated/retro, tomato/tomato.

Because I'm unimpressed, will you assume this same argument about me?

I actually like it too; it totally looks like a no-tell motel that would charge by the hour.

I also like that a closed, bankrupt church is getting bulldozed.

I honestly dont care.
I made my statement, and people who got triggered by it do what triggered people do.
If you dont like it, dont like it. To many times on here we have people
hating a project, writing breathless posts attacking it, anyone who likes it, and the city
in general, just to turn around once its built and say "oh thats pretty nice!"

As I said before, you are what you answer to.
Have a good afternoon.

Question

Any updates on 820 So. Olive? Looks like it should top out soon. That building will be impressive.

Love the new 1111 Sunset proposal. Hope it gets built. That whole area north of downtown around Chinatown, Union Station area up to Dodger Stadium needs some development, especially apartment towers. North Broadway could be a future development hotspot. The transit is there to support greatly increased density and need for affordable housing is great. Hopefully "Nimbys" won't try to interfere.

DT LA from 11 miles.

Can see some nice action going on as the DT expands. Wilshire Grand is looking sweet in sunny LA. You lucky folks.

Most large cities besides L.A., including New York, Toronto, Atlanta, Seattle etc. have "satellite" skyscraper centers outside of the core "downtown". There is nothing wrong with this pattern as long as the "satellite" cores are located near transit hubs, and that is in the L.A. transit plan. I do agree that a diffuse scattering of 1 or 2 skyscrapers away from transit is not ideal. The Montparnasse tower in Paris comes to mind and is widely disliked by Parisians as out of place. But dense skyscraper concentrations like Century City are OK, or even linear concentrations as on Wilshire. DTLA will probably always have the largest and tallest concentrations of tall buildings, and that is good.

That was 10 to 11 days ago:

So it should top out soon, yes.

It makes already a nice impact.

By the way, other pages list it now with officially 53 stories (not 49 or 50).
