Summerhill to add hundreds of housing units

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/..._news_headline

Quote:
The next phase of the neighborhood’s transformation is housing and a possible grocery store.

Carter is pursuing financing for a 310-unit apartment project overlooking right field of the proposed Georgia State baseball stadium. The Atlanta real estate company wants to start construction by August. The apartment development is being designed by Rule Joy Trammell Rubio, LLC.

Additional for-sale units are also planned. In December, Carter sold about three acres just off Georgia Avenue to Atlanta’s Hedgewood Homes. The developer is seeking a building permit for up to 100 townhomes starting at $300,000. The units will be a short walk from a variety of new restaurants and shops.

Carter is also moving closer to a letter-of-intent with a more than 40,000-square-foot grocery store at Hank Aaron Drive and Crumley Street. Carter could not release the name of the grocer, but Atlanta Business Chronicle has learned Publix has looked for a new store in the area.

Hank Aaron Drive & Crumley? Those roads do not intersect. Did they mean Abernathy and Crumley? I don’t think there is land there for a grocery store of that size. It would be much nicer to integrate a grocery store into the bottom of one of the developments along Capitol/ Hank Aaron similar to The Midtown Plaza location. Don’t make it a suburban style Publix please.

Although it's not labeled here, Crumley and Hank Aaron will intersect once the street grid is reconnected. The grocer will most certainly be urban-style at the bottom of a new development.

EDIT: It's labeled on this one:

Based on the map key, I am assuming that the grocery store would be at the base of the apartment building fronting Crumley.

Thanks for the update on the street names. I hope it is in the base of a building and not like the Publix at North Ave

Something like the Sprouts in the old Modera Morningside would be ideal for this location (as well as many other neighborhoods throughout Atlanta).

A grocery store in the neighborhood is great news and I am loving the way Summerhill is coming along.

Really happy these shops are opening, but man do I prefer the old murals and graffiti more so than the sterilized look on the stores. Still looking forward to visiting more in the near future.

Summerhill is marketing several office developments on loopnet.

100 Frasser St - 45',000 square feet
150 Frasser St. - 10 floors and 250,000 square feet
400 Hank Aaron Dr. - 12 floors & 300,000 square feet
450:Hank Aaron Dr. - 12 floors & 300,000 square feet

This looks like the corner of Hank Aaron and Glen Street.

This is at the corner where the grocery store space would be.

God, I love this project so much. I know it's a mega development but it feels so much more authentic than other projects like Quarry Yards/ Atlantic Station. I think it's due to the fact that they're restoring old buildings first, having tenants move in - and then building residential to provide infill gradually. It makes the neighborhood growth feel more natural and we can tangible see the difference YoY.

And the design is very urban, yet conscious of the adjacent single family homes. It activates every street with life and best of all, no private streets by the developer!

I cannot wait to see the neighborhood in 10 years.

I REALLY hope the execution of these looks as good as the renderings. It has the potential to be a national class university neighborhood!

I third that sentiment. The plan for the neighborhood is looking better and better.

While very much improving still a long ways to go and plenty of opportunity for this area. Glad to see things progressing and looking forward to the next phase.
