I know Nobu was sold to another developer, but does anyone have any details on when/if construction is going to restart?

The FMD sign looks a lot better with some real density right next to it.

This is a great example of how to successfully work out challenges of mimmicking a super thick load bearing masonry facade. Understandably not possible anymore due to cost but you can see the architect devised a solution. It’s a series of layers that should give a ton of depth and look like a classic Chicago, century old warehouse

Unfortunately many unskilled designers would wrap the structure with the facade having the windows and brick in one single plane, that’s when you’ll get complaints of some buildings looking “cheap”.

But I’m looking forward to seeing how 811 will turn out

Those windows are sharp. I'd like to see those types of windows used more often, especially in renovations.

East-West university really needs to develope or sell that parking garage at 8th/wabash. With the new columbia building going up that intersection needs that parking structure to go. Has there ever been a proposal for that corner in the past?

^They just did a bunch of remedial work in that structure 6-8 months ago. I’m not sure exactly what, but there was a lot of grinding, chipping, and patching. Besides, if they got rid of that structure, where would all the kids go to smoke pot between classes?!? Think about the children!

They could just as easily skip the brick. There are plenty of Albert Kahn-esque warehouses and factories out there with exposed (painted) concrete frame, it would be an equally “authentic” industrial look. Those buildings have a little depth in the facade too, though, the columns usually sit proud of the spandrels with the windows and brick infill further back.

Does anyone know if Union West and the H20 site in the West Loop are breaking ground anytime soon?
