I like it. Ogden needs more tall buildings like this.

Very nice! I agree this guy has stones, and it's very cool to see him "putting his money where his mouth is" as he puts it. I would absolutely consider living there if I worked close by. Good for DT Ogden. I honestly think it's only going to get better.

This theatre looks pretty cool. I'm a confirmed movie geek,so I think I will use this as an excuse to get up to Ogden and catch a flick once the theatre is open. That way, I can check out all the new development we've been reading about.

Delts, Welcome back.

For some reason that new Movie building with that design reminds me of "Space Mountain" Disney Land. But I like it.

You're right SLC, It does look like Space Mountain in that shot. Hmmm, I'm anxious to check downtown Ogden out.

There's a good article in the Des News this morning regarding Ogden.

Some good pub for the ol' hometown. http://travel.nytimes.com/2007/06/22...s/22ogden.html

I still think the gondola idea is insane.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for everybody to go spend some time at The Junction. The Megaplex Theater has some very cool architecture/design elements and the activities within the Salomon Center shouldn't be missed. Just watching the iFly employees fly around in the wind tunnel is very entertaining and makes you want to jump in and try it for yourself. And then there is the Flowrider, another very entertaining thing to watch (and very visible from the street and Costa Vida).

It's just too bad the rest of the development isn't up and running yet. Once those two blocks are filled out it will be a far cry from where it was just a year ago.

Make sure to leave yourselves plenty of time when you go. Because there is plenty to do to fill up a day with those two buildings.

Yes, the Megaplex and the Solomon Center Opened over the weekend. The rest of the project (Offices, Condos, retail) is still under construction.

We went and saw a movie at the new theater on Friday. It was quite impressive, afterward we walked around the Salomon Center. It offers all kinds of activities (Simulated skydiving, surfing, bowling, rock climbing, a gym, etc...) I was a bit dissapointed with the design of the building however. From the outside it looks like a very open, airy, and inviting place, but inside it has low ceilings, few windows, narrow winding halls and staircases which are confining and difficult to navigate.

It honestly felt like we'd accidentally gone in through a service entrance or something because it was so cramped and hard to get around inside.

Overall, the project is amazing. The simple fact that I was able to spend an enjoyable evening in downtown Ogden is an improvement over what Ogden has offered in the past.

Ogden City's website has a lot of information in the project available here:

http://www.ogdencity.com/index.php?m...l.weberproject

For anyone who hasn't been to downtown Ogden lately, I highly suggest a visit. Things have really turned around and it has become a really great place. Next year when commuter rail is finished and the rest of "The Junction" comes online, things will only get even better.

I completely agree with regards to the building design. Especially with the front entrance, it is VERY understated. Fortunately, the array of activities make up for that.

And Delts, when you go up to watch your movie, make sure to get into one of the screen rooms with the digital projectors. After having frequented the Megaplex at The District I have become way too spoiled...

And again, leave yourself plenty of time to check everything out.

Thanks for the heads-up Ark and Gbb,
I caught this in the Heritage Foundation Newsletter from the other day and thought I would pass it along

OGDEN -- The Windsor Hotel, a three-story brick structure on Historic 25th Street, a block east of Ogden's Union Station, will soon begin a new era in its 99-year history.....

Thanks for the link Delts. I wonder how much their units will be selling for. 25th Street sure has a lot of character. It's good to see more residential components moving into the area.

Looks like the Gondola plan just took a huge hit.

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_6332126

"OGDEN -- The city won't sell its Mount Ogden Golf Course to a developer with plans for a resort and mountain gondola, Mayor Matthew Godfrey said."

West Liberty Foods

An interesting little announcement that is a prime example of what is happening along the Wasatch these days. These kind of announcements have become somewhat uneventful, but added up they are significant in putting the Wasatch at the top of economic growth in the nation.

West Liberty Foods
Headquarters: West Liberty, Iowa
Employees: About 2,000 nationwide
Locations: Three plants in Iowa, one in Tremonton
Utah facility growth: From current 70 employees to 500 by next summer

Ogden, Utah: Outdoor Recreation's New Garden of Eden

http://www.insidetri.com/portal/news...sp?item=110619

Sandwiched between the Wasatch Mountains foothills and the eastern fingers of Great Salt Lake, the 80,000-person burg of Ogden, Utah dazzles with a natural beauty and rich history and entices with its fast-growing prominence as an outdoor recreation utopia...

...But outdoor adventure-seekers and ski-goggle manufacturers aren't the only ones hightailing it to Ogden. In 2006, the XTERRA Mountain championship pulled up stakes in its longtime venue of Keystone, Colorado and headed west, setting up a killer course and rockin' party atmosphere in the heights and hills of Greater Ogden and Snowbasin Resort. Organizers, athletes and racing enthusiasts alike raved about the regional championship's new digs, solidifying the race's place in the Beehive State. Then they did it all over again this August 18, knocking out yet another hitch-free event.
