So if Seattle joins the Pacific division, what existing team moves to the Central?
Almost makes more sense to pit a new franchise in Houston from a purely geographical point of view.

Geographically Calgary and Edmonton are the furthest from the pacific so it would have to be one of them.

Arizona seems like a good candidate. It would make it easier down the line to when they eventually need to move and the NHL can put them in Houston as the "best fit" (overlooking Quebec again).

Arizona is the only that makes sense from the fan's perspective. You can't break up Edmonton/Calgary, the California teams, or a new Vancouver/Seattle rivalry. the league however, does not operate with our best interests at heart so anything could happen.

I'm guessing it would be Arizona. Moving them into a division with Colorado/Dallas wouldn't be the end of the world and gets them more games against St. Louis/Chicago/Nashville. Losing the Vegas/Arizona games is not great but Vegas still has the Cali teams for company.

Once Seattle is admitted and there's another lockout there's no guarantee we'll still have this divisional setup anyway.

That is big news especially for Vancouver, if Seattle gets a team your two cities will become instant NHL rivals. Vancouver always lacked it's own personal rival much like Ottawa and Winnipeg do. Now if we could only find a way to get you a baseball team in Vancouver.

Yes, that’s where Jets fans go to watch away games most. The rivalry has been a little slow to develop given that in the current format teams don’t really play divisional rivals all that often.

Hopefully if Edmonton ever gets good that would be a long term rivalry of top contenders.

The Jets’ comeback vs. Washington last night was truly epic. Hopefully it ends their little slump.

Are Winnipeg and Minnesota really rivals though? they are pretty far apart and citizens of both probably don't interact very often. Vancouver and Seattle should be rivals because they are close and they visit each others cities quite often. A few good playoff series can make a rival as well, Colorado and Detroit were probably the biggest rivals in the 90's.

The impression I get is that fans in MN are barely aware of us. There also haven't been many meaningful games with the Wild... it's really just the road trip factor that even brings the Wild into the conversation of being rivals. Tons of local fans drove down for games in the first few seasons when the novelty factor was high and the Jets were still a very tough ticket.

I'd wager that if you polled fans, it's probably the lingering Jets 1.0 rivalries from the old Smythe division that still resonate the most, even if they're pretty well dormant now... Edmonton is public enemy number 1, with Calgary and Vancouver up there too. It wouldn't take too much to rev up the old Oilers hate if the two teams ever met in the playoffs again. There's a reason the Oilers played in the Heritage Classic here last season.
