Arrow A Weekend in The Big Peach (Atlanta): Part 1

My wife, son, and I went to Atlanta last weekend for a wedding. Later that afternoon, we went downtown so I could shoot some pics.

My son, Austin, is eager to ride "the monorail" (that's what he called MARTA)

The accounting firm that my wife works for (KPMG) occupies floors 18-21 of SunTrust Plaza. Someone from the Atlanta office who's been working in Birmingham let my wife borrow his security badge so that we could gain access to the Atlanta office. I shot photos from different offices on different floors (mostly to the north towards Midtown).

I wasn't able to shoot many photos to the south or southwest due to the position of the sun as you can see in this photo:

Looking northwest towards Georgia Tech, Vinings, and Kennesaw Mountain (auto focus didn't work too well on the 2nd one):

Looking northeast towards the CDC and Emory University (same problem with the auto focus...must have had something to do with zooming in while shooting through a window...who knows):

What an idiot I was for not taking that opportunity... ATL is changing so much, right before our very eyes.

Le sigh.

Good god, these pictures are heavenly! No joke, this is one of the best Atlanta photosets I have ever seen. Excellent job!

One thing that does worry me though is Terminus. It looks rather bland compared to the rest of Buckhead. My guess is it is just distance decay, but I'm not sure.

"Monorail"... haha... sounds like someone has spent some time at DisneyWorld. My son is familiar with that.

Thanks.

Your son is growing so fast (but I don't need to tell you that)!

Thanks MattSal, Tombstoner, and Caleb!

Actually, Steve, he hasn't been to Walt Disney World yet but is anxious to go. I requested a DVD for planning a trip to WDW that he likes to watch, and that's how he learned about the monorail.

Nice stuff!

You start so many Atlanta threads, I'm wondering if you should buy a 2nd home there.

Great shots. YOu really captured the height and scale of many of these buildings. Sorry your autofocus was acting up on you.

And, let me know if you need help with that WDW trip. Former Cast Member here, granting me a sort of ad hoc "vacation planner" position.

Thanks MidtownMile and zodiac!

MidtownMile, that's cool that you were a cast member at WDW. We went to WDW about every 3 to 4 years when I was growing up, and guess what I wanted to be at that time? A monorail driver.
