Look at Manhattan West, its inevitable

I do believe, probably before the year 2100, we will c replicas (over very near replicas say with windows wider then the original 18 inches) of the WTC twin towers somewhere in this world. At the same height or taller.

If so they'll probably be in Asia where they copy a lot of Western building designs.

Not to deviate from this thread to much, but research "The Yujiapu dream" and China's replica of Paris" to see some cloning action at work. They also have a development that looks identical to the original WTC1 and 2, only at about 1,100 feet. If you keep track of Chinese developments, you'll notice a big replica trend in many of their designs. One Liberty Plaza is also cloned as well. And it goes on...

Brookfield’s first Manhattan West office tower will cost $2.1B to develop
2 million-square-foot building to have 100k sf of retail

January 20, 2015
Rich Bockmann

Quote:
Brookfield Office Properties has pegged the total development cost for the first of its two Manhattan West office towers at slightly more than $2 billion, per an application it filed to avail of tax benefits.

One Manhattan West – the northernmost of a pair of office towers set to rise as part of Brookfield’s 5.4 million-square-foot, mixed-use megaproject on the Far West Side – will cost $2.1 billion to develop, according to an application the real estate investment trust’s filed with the New York City Industrial Development Agency, the financing arm of the New York City Economic Development Corp.

The figure includes hard and soft costs such as construction and marketing, as well as the price paid for land.

The Skidmore, Owings and Merrill-designed tower at Ninth Avenue and 33rd Street will span two million square feet, 100,000 of which will be set aside for retail.

The IDA will hold a hearing early next month to consider Brookfield’s application to make certain payments in lieu of property taxes, though the dollar figure of such payments was not immediately clear. Representatives for the REIT weren’t available for comment.

Other developers in the Hudson Yards neighborhood have applied for the same financial benefits for their multimillion-square-foot real estate proposals, and in the process have revealed telling information about the projects.

In July, Tishman Speyer put a $3.2 billion price tag on the 61-story office tower it is planning for the corner of 10th Avenue and 34th Street, as The Real Deal reported, and in December, the Moinian Group said it will cost $1.6 billion to develop its 1.7 million-square-foot office property at 11th Avenue.

Brookfield finished work on the concrete platform capping the Penn Station rail yards under its site in November, marking a major milestone for the project. Soon after, the developer filed an application to purchase $93 million worth of bonus building rights for 3 Manhattan West, the 62-story residential tower planned at the southern end of the campus. - See more at: http://therealdeal.com/blog/2015/01/....z9eZ3Lna.dpuf

Yes, things are moving along now, as we are beginning to see Bloomberg's planning go into effect with these towers, which were intended to help pay for the 7 line extension.

Moinian, Brookfield Get Hudson Yards Tax Abatements Totaling $180M

BY LAUREN ELKIES SCHRAM
2/10/14

Quote:
The Moinian Group and Brookfield Properties today got approval from the New York City Industrial Development Agency, or NYCIDA, to receive tax abatement benefits for their respective Hudson Yards developments.

Moinian received the benefits at 3 Hudson Boulevard, a 1.8-million-square-foot mixed-use tower spanning a full city block north of Hudson Yards and across the street from the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Brookfield secured the benefits for its 2-million-square-foot Manhattan West, at 401 Ninth Avenue, according to a spokesman for the city’s Economic Development Corporation, which staffs NYCIDA.

Brookfield’s project at 401 Ninth Avenue is proposed for the northeast corner of Brookfield’s five-acre Manhattan West and fronts West 33rd Street and Ninth Avenue. It will be 70 stories, with retail on the bottom floors and office space above, the NYCIDA documents show.

70 stories? Maybe they're just rounding up from 60 whatever-it-was but maybe it'll break 1000.

I'm really hoping they stay two identical towers so NY can have supertall twins again.

Current DOB filings show a 69 floor tower, with a stated height of 995 ft. However, it's possible that may not reflect the final height. But even if it does, its still supertall status.

Maybe I just haven't noticed it before, but it seems they're putting more emphasis on being in the overall Hudson Yards district, which is very hot right now...

So 1 tower instead of two perhaps? Or maybe they're just going ahead with this one first.

They're building one tower at a time, similar to what's happening with the Hudson Yards and the WTC. These buildings are all being driven by tenants. When there is a tenant for the second tower, they will move that along.

That restoration is perfect. This has always been an eyesore, at least now, it will be worthy of being in this city. Has a high-tech campus feel to it.
