Once it's built, I think it will look cool and funky, just like Hintonburg is.
It will be interesting to see how this thing looks in the flesh. I don't mind developers taking a different direction in terms of architectural style. Maybe someone will try dark red brick one day!

As for Hintonburg, I've taken to calling it The Borg. I won't go into why.

Oh, right, 1%. Sorry. Still a waste of money (when looking at the resulting crap).

As for the design of the Eddy, I have to agree with Mac. Ugly. Never liked it. Weird ass looking thing with cheap siding. Oh so much cheap siding... Can we bring back yellow brick? I miss it.

Reminds me of 360LOFTS on Cumberland Street.

It won't make much of an impact, but it will be visible

The Eddy just got a shout-out in the Globe and Mail, in an article about an unrelated (but high profile) Toronto project, Massey Tower.

The relevant part of the article is:

Quote:
Mr. Switzer also had to think on his feet when it came to providing parking. With no room in the rear of the building to build a ramp, a traditional below-grade parking lot was out of the question. That’s when he looked abroad for ideas for above-ground parking, and stumbled upon an automated system similar to the one being used at The Eddy condominium development in Ottawa.

“The system we’re using is from Amsterdam,” he says, adding that they travelled there to investigate car elevators installed in buildings that are more than 400 years old. “Basically you drive in, into an elevator, the car’s on a palate, you put your key fob on a pad and you leave the elevator, the doors close and it takes your car away.”
For the complete article, go to: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/repor...ticle19698816/

Just another sign that Windmill is a step above as a developer, with architects and developers elsewhere in Canada looking to them for inspiration.

I wonder if they will use such automated parking systems in their Domtar lands development?

Although the automated parking systems sound good in theory, I wonder what the maintenance costs are like, especially with the salty slush in Ottawa winters.

Yes, one. It will be built in an existing ultra deep basement (of a long gone building)

Coming from Ottawa towards Hull, it will be under the first building on the right (past the triangular Albert Island). It will have 240 spaces.

Surprised that there hasn't been any update on this one for a few months. I live nearby, so I will take a few pics when I go walk my dog. Its been topped out for a while, crane gone, looks like they are now working on the interior and will soon be starting with the cladding. Looking good, but I keep on wondering if they will bury the hydro lines & transformer boxes that are right in front of the balconies.

Good god. I will reserve my judgement till it is done, but white siding NEVER ages well.
