Yeah it's a great building. Cincy is lucky to have several towers like this, and it's looking like most will be converted to residential.

I like this thread, keep up the work. I'm excited to see the casino coming together and I really hope they can get going on the next phase of the Banks (hopefully putting in the condo's, hotel, and office building as well).

160 apartments proposed for old SCPA building
Quote:
After years of uncertainty about the future of a historic school, an Indianapolis developer is proposing 160-plus apartments for the former SCPA building in Pendleton, according to a community leader.

John Watson, principal of Core Redevelopment, will present two possible plans for the 192,000-square-foot building at a Pendleton Community Council meeting Wednesday evening, according to Council President David White. Watson couldn’t be reached for comment.

Cincinnati central riverfront plan wins national award
Quote:
For all you skeptics who thought Cincinnati’s central riverfront would be parking lots and mud forever, check this out: The Cincinnati central riverfront plan will receive the American Planning Association’s 2013 National Planning Excellence Award for Implementation.

The award recognizes the plan’s “success in converting 195 acres of vast wasteland – between the Ohio River and Cincinnati’s Central Business District – into an economically successful and vital, mixed-use development with a dramatic new park,” according to a news release.

37-plus apartments proposed at Northside school
Quote:
A developer wants to turn the former Kirby Road School into 37 apartments and possibly build 40 new units at the Northside site, too.

Bloomfield/Schon & Partners, which previously turned Northside’s former American Can Co. into apartments, has requested rezoning for the 5-acre property, currently zoned single family.

There is no rendering yet for 5th and Race, and there really hasn't been any new information on the bridge. All I know is that they have narrowed it down to a couple designs, and that it will likely be tolled.

Didn't see this coming:

Carew Tower could go residential
Quote:
One day you might be able to live in Downtown’s landmark Carew Tower.

“Active discussions” are under way about converting turn the 49-story building into residential, Cincinnati Vice Mayor Roxanne Qualls told The Enquirer in an interview Thursday. Officials with Belvedere Corp., which owns Carew, could not be reached for comment.

City leaders have been pushing for more housing in the Central Business District to enhance the vitality and stability of Downtown as a neighborhood.

Eh, it makes sense. With that, hopefully Tower Place turns to an urban Kroger or a CityTarget.

That would be amazing!

Either way, the office space in Carew seriously needs to be updated. Converting to residential, in that location, with the amazing architecture of the building would be an amazing addition to the city.

Also, if all of the companies in Carew were forced to move to another building, I don't think the proposed towers at the Banks would have any trouble finding tennants.

Delta Ave. getting 76 new apartments
Quote:
Construction is expected to start within six weeks for 76 apartments on Delta Avenue in Columbia Tusculum, a hot residential area adjacent to Mount Lookout.

Delta Flats, an apartment complex on 3.8 acres at the northwest corner of Delta Avenue and Columbia Parkway, will include a fitness center and pool, Towne Properties’ Arn Bortz told the Enquirer on Thursday.

The apartments – all one-bedroom units – will start at about $975 a month, Bortz said.

I was gonna say something if you didn't hah! Too bad we couldn't wait for 2019, that would mark 150 years of Reds tradition...and the Banks might be done by then, probably not though -_-

I don't know.. The second phase of the Banks is supposed to start construction sometime this quarter and finish by summer 2015. So it will hopefully be done by then. The boat dock at Smale Riverfront Park should be finished too.

I'm just hoping the city will really push hard for the streetcar to be operational by then as well.

You know, I am just not a fan of the street car at all. The way I see it, we took these things out in the 50's and now we want to put them back? Granted I am one of those people who love walking around downtown with my friends between bar hops, walking from the Banks up to OTR, I think this city needs priorities above anything else. We have an image that has huge potential, but we don't know where to go with it. The streetcars could be a good idea once we have entertainment and residential areas set. I don't know how we are going to pay for this, especially since the city plans to buy and begin receiving five streetcars in mid-2014, more than 1 1/2 years before the system is operational. I'm just not convinced new businesses will sprout up near the stops. That is one thing that I don't like about the Banks is that they focus on residential way too much. What I think they needed was a High St. (Columbus,OH) and a Newport on the Levee. What people want when they come out of a Reds, Bengals, or Cyclones game is entertainment. Considering that they are looking at converting the Carew Tower to residential I don't see that big need for housing at the Banks. I have great confidence though, that if these caps get put in, it will be a colossal missed opportunity.

I'll get off my soapbox . That was a slightly off topic rant hah

ANYWAY, its still exciting to see the All Star game come back to Cincinnati finally!
