Roman concrete structures have indeed lasted at least 2,000 years the coliseum in Italy is a perfect example. However most modern concrete structures use non-stainless steel reinforcing bars which while making them dramatically stronger than there Roman counter-parts ironically contributes to there early demise if people are unwilling or unable to provide constant maintenance.

roman era buildings were actually made out of stone.

How long has the Parthenon and the Coliseum been there? Some thousand years now?

Its a reason why some of our neo-classical buildings only need cleaning and sharpening every now and then, and not serious structural work.

Roman buildings were constructed of a variety of materials. Load bearing walls often had stone or brick facing surrounding a concrete core. While the columns of the Pantheon are granite, the dome of the Pantheon used several increasing light varieties of concrete as the construction proceeded to the oculus at the top.

latest picture from Feb 14th, 2011:

Looks like some sort of antenna equipment on the roof.
I also found the amount of traffic quite notable.

^It's looking more and more like some sort of death ray.

I really want to go there. It's just getting so surreal.

Some sort of antenna equipment on the roof, huh? What do you think this is for????!?!?!?!?

The point of this tower is just to be an antenna for an Egyptian telecommunications company, they are just making it look finished.

Not really if you look closely they are finishing the base of the building. Thus that means the building is clearly going to be occupied at some point. We don't know who of course would want to live or spend their night there, but maybe Chinese, and Russian tourists would, because a lot of Chinese, and Russians go there for vacation since it's cheap, and close to their homes.

I'm not so sure since the Orascom website was no help at all and wikipedia said this;

"The company expected to complete exterior work on the building in 2010, with interior work taking until 2012 or later. According to Orascom, work on the building's exterior is expected to last until the end of 2010, at which point interior work will begin, which will last until 2012 or beyond. The Ryugyong is planned to become a mixed-use development, including "revolving restaurant" facilities along with "a mixture of hotel accommodation, apartments and business facilities" according to BBC quoting Orascom's Mr. Bichra. Other sources have hinted on the future multi-purpose nature of Ryugyong, including one quoting that Ryugyong's "3,000 rooms, offices, restaurants, nightclubs and banquet halls remain hollow shells."

I think the best view of this building will be at night, when will light up the night sky as a symbol of North Korea's economic might in tourism and free enterprise. O wait...

But seriously if they wanted to make this building look finished, then why not design it like a telecommunications tower and save millions of dollars ?

Not true, unfortunately. I guarantee you it is just a signal tower. And why do my posts get deleted when it is totally relevant?
