here comes big daddy . . centerpiece of Hudson Yards . .
most distinctive dominant structure on the entire West side,
stem to stern, of Manhattan . .

Not to worry, those that say 1 WTC, is as distinctive . .
are only a little wrong . .
If Foster's 2 WTC gets built, instead of the Ingles pile, . .
then 30 HY has some real competition in the
"Impressively distinctive West Side Dominator" category . .

In my book, when talking about the supremacy of tall towers, . .
impressive design, trumps an extra 100 feet of height . .
especially if the tower rules by donning a big stick . .
though the Nordstrom stick, is the make or break
design piece de resistance on that one . .

of course if the Worldwide Plaza building
had been built at twice the height,
it would've been Manhattan's most magnificent
West Side Dominator . .

I want to climb those sky-stairs (or sloped ladder) . .
that goes up along the angled top-edge of the South Wall,
almost to the tip of 30 HY's crisp crown . .
see the cool-ass 1st picture of NYguy's post #3003 . . (the close-up of the crown) . .
but undoubtedly, it's for maintenance staff only . .

I didn't realize that the edge of the outdoor observation deck,
was so near to, and ran parallel to, the tower's south wall . .
I think that once upon a time, it came out of the south face at an angle . .
I assume the deck still comes out of the East Face, at a considerable angle . .
I too, really can't wait to go up on this deck . .
and to see the crowns illuminated . .

its really hard to overstate how immensely mammoth this bldg is in person.

when you see it up close along 10av/33-34st and also when you look at it from next to the new hudson yards 7 train station -- it really drops your jaw.

so, according to the utterly fascinating close-up rendering
of the finished crown, . . (see Feb 5th NYguy post above) . .
it looks like the metal grids of the sloped crown roofs . .
won't be filled in with glass, as I've been hoping they would be . .

That extra expense, would've made the buildings (10 & 30 HY)
appear more finely finished & wholely prismatic . . and the crown-roof slopes,
more impressively & evenly illuminated at night . .
(as they appeared to be in the earliest set of renderings of this complex) . .

It's hard to tell, even in this highly precise rendering, . .
if there's some sort of long lighting fixtures attached to
the crosshatching bars defining the roof planes . .
I assume some sort of lighting effect will be happening . .
within the wide edging of the sloping triangles . .

It's amazing, because of its sheer bulk it seems much shorter than 600ft.
