I actually like the idea of another stop light on Capitol Blvd. It will help slow people down who speed between University Dr. and River St.

SkyWest Airlines Hosts Grand Opening Celebration

SkyWest Airlines Hosts Grand Opening Celebration
New 135,000 Square Foot Maintenance Hangar Opens at Boise Airport

Boise, Idaho - SkyWest Airlines hosted a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony for their new 135,000 square foot maintenance hangar today at the Boise Airport. Boise Mayor David Bieter said "SkyWest's investment in Boise and our airport is a testament to the value of doing business in our city. In just 16 months, this project went from idea to ribbon cutting and I couldn't be more proud of the partners who worked to pull it together. Bringing high paying jobs like those at this facility is one way we are working to make Boise the most livable city in the country."

McAlvain Construction broke ground last October, completing the project in less than a year. The hangar is the largest pre-manufactured clear-span metal building in the Pacific Northwest.

The facility contains 100,000 square feet of hangar space and 35,000 square feet of office space. The project, which was the first to utilize Idaho's Tax Reimbursement Incentives (TRI), is expected to create up to 100 high paying jobs for the Treasure Valley when fully staffed.

"SkyWest selected Boise because of its location, competitive costs and connectivity across our operation," said Bill Dykes, SkyWest's Vice President of Maintenance. "We're excited to have a new, state-of-the-art facility in Boise to help us keep our fleet in top condition."

"Development of the hangar in the southeast corner of the airfield fits perfectly into the airport's master plan," said Boise Airport Director Rebecca Hupp. "This really solidifies our partnership with SkyWest Airlines and opens up the previously undeveloped portion of the airfield for future expansion."

When the project is fully staffed, the economic impact to the state of Idaho will include new total wages in excess of $5.4 million a year and new sales and income tax revenues for the state of approximately $350,000 a year. The projected average annual wage is $52,000, well above the average in Ada County.

The airline plans to maintain a variety of single and dual-class aircraft at the Boise facility.

Are there renderings for the new Broadway bridge design? I'll be honest in saying I haven't seen any or missed them if somebody posted them in these forums.

There are renderings that I think have been posted either in this thread or the main thread. That first pic in Sawtooth's post (by the way, thanks for posting those) lists the website which has renderings.

Basco, we each posted the same article from the same source, mine was last week on the 7th. It is good news indeed.

The Road More Traveled: The City of Boise Pounds the Pavement For Parking-Protected Bike Lanes

City officials say they definitely prefer one bike alternative above all others for Main and Idaho streets

Quote:
The City of Trees is more like the City of Cranes, with the construction of a new transit center, convention center, several condominium/apartment complexes and three new hotels—all in or near downtown. While there has been plenty of conversation regarding the rapidly transforming face of Boise, the equally dramatic change of how people will soon be moving around the downtown area has been garnering far less dialogue. That's about to change.

I like the idea of taking away a traffic lane on Main and Idaho to accommodate a protected bike lane on each street. I don't think this would disrupt the vehicle traffic flow and it would slow drivers down and help keep the idiots in check who like to lane weave and treat these skinny one way streets as racetracks. It looks like the city wants to keep the parking meters and that is good for business.

I agree with Sawtooth and like this layout as well. On street parking should exist everywhere. It creates a nice separation from traffic for pedestrians and in the case for bikers as well. I have been thinking that it might be nice to take the two outside lanes on Front and Myrtle and make them into parking. I know it would make traffic worse, but with timed lights I don't think it would be too terrible. Plus it would create a more desirable atmosphere for pedestrians and street level retail along these two streets.

Bike lanes

Drove the length of Vista today, and all the businesses have off street parking. The residential area is only a couple of blocks. They could save a lot of money by just getting rid of the left turn lane by restriping and have a left turn only at major street crossings.
Here are some ideas:

The Ada County Highway District will host a community open house Thursday, March 31, from 4 to 7 p.m. to find out what the public thinks regarding alternatives for the intersection of Warm Springs, Broadway, and Avenue B in Boise, near St. Luke’s hospital.

Dallas flights will help Boise business travelers, chamber says

Highlights
Dallas is a major destination for Boise travelers even without the direct flights starting in June

Next on Chamber wish list: a nonstop flight to the East Coast

Read more here: http://www.idahostatesman.com/news/b...#storylink=cpy

Quote:
Dallas has been near the top of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce’s wish list for direct flights available at Boise Airport, chamber CEO Bill Connors said.

That’s because the Treasure Valley’s largest employers travel to Texas for business, and often to Dallas itself.

“Albertsons or WinCo or Micron or HP, you name it, there’s some sort of presence in Texas,” Connors said. “This connection certainly helps those businesses.”

River will be open to float during Broadway bridge construction

https://arbiteronline.com/wp-content...14-620x264.jpg

Quote:
Floating the Boise river is one of the most popular summer activities, but those concerned the Broadway Bridge construction will cause some ripples can rest somewhat easy.

Idaho Transportation Department Broadway Bridge Construction Project Manager Merrill Sharp said the river is open for floating during the summer months.

Although Sharp said construction will not prevent people from floating the river, the banks of the river near the construction site will not be open for floaters to leave the river.
