Great post Laceoflight, it was a pleasure to read

If you ever feel like doing the same format for the two first posts for Winnipeg and Montreal, that would be great! Following links all over the place, I usually quit after just a couple

My favourite for Ottawa:

Confederation building 70m (1931)

Its sibling the Justice Building 53m (1938)

Great pics, guys. Keep 'em coming.

One thing this thread confirms, though, is that Canadian cities have always been afraid of heights, or having skyscrapers that really stand out from the next tallest ones in their respective cities. That was as true in 1917 as it is in 2017.

No Terminal Towers or Carew towers or things like that.

Every now and then a skyscraper breaks the height barrier by a substantial margin, like Stantec now or the TD centre in 1967 but, in general, the "tallest building in city X" is a 30 or 50 ft higher than the second, third, fourth...tenth tallest.

Architects Building 1931 - demolished in the 60's.

Its 10 storey neighbour was also demolished for unknown reasons

The art deco Private's Patient pavilion of the (former) Children's Hospital (49m) is to be demolished in the coming months, along with the entire 1950's institutional complex. Because condos.

The Women's Pavillion of the Royal Victoria 45m-8 floors (1926)

Ross Memorial Pavilion: 44m-8 floors (1916)

Neurological Institute: 40m-10 floors (1934)

ROYAL ARCHITECTURAL INSTITUTE OF CANADA JOURNAL, OCTOBER 1934

The Ross, Women's, Neuro and the entire Royal Vic campus in 1956.

Another Hospital: St. Mary's Hospital: 47m-10 floors (1934)

Montreal's Dominion Square Building looks a bit like Detroit's Cadillac Place:
