After the recent snow storm in Ithaca, an example of dedication, the Red Tail Hawk cam showed mama staying on the future generation:

Wish I could be there for this tour. I guess I'm curious and a bit nosey.

All the construction in my old neighborhood is causing concern among locals and students (from the Cornell Daily Sun):

Here's what the article is refering to (from the Ithaca Voice):

Looks like the city is going to clamp down on an Ithaca tradition....cliff jumping at the second dam swimming area of Six Mile Creek. An article from the Ithaca Journal:

A short video taken by a tourist of Lucifer Falls in a gorge in Treman Park just outside Ithaca. The trail walk along the gorge is a beauty. Hope this gives you a feeling of the place.

An article from the Ithaca Times about a couple who moved to Trumansburg (10 miles from the city). Ithaca's loss is Trumansburg's gain.

An article from the Ithaca Journal ref: recent population gain. Seems Ithaca and Tompkins County is the only Southern Tier of New York area to gain. Sad situation for the rest of the region.

http://www.ithacajournal.com/story/n...nsus/84555110/

Some highlights:

Quote:
The city's estimated population last year reached 30,788, up nearly 3 percent, or 774 residents, from 2010. The latest population estimate is a historical high, as was the decennial census in 2010.......

Other population highlights, from 2010 to 2015, in the Ithaca area:

Town of Ithaca was up 3 percent, or 599 people, to 20,529.
Town of Dryden, up 4 percent, or 520, to 14,955. The village's population was up 11 percent, or 204, to 2,094.
Town of Lansing, up 4 percent, or 491, to 11,524. The village was up 3 percent, or 120, to 3,649.
Town of Groton, up 3 percent, or 162, to 6,112. The village was up 1 percent, or 33, to 2,396.
Newfield, up 3 percent, or 138, to 5,317.
Ulysses, up 4 percent, or 193, to 5,093.
Village of Cayuga Heights, up 2 percent, or 93, to 3,822.
Enfield, up 3 percent, or 106, to 3,618.
Danby, up 6 percent, or 205, to 3,534.
Caroline, up 5 percent, or 174, to 3,456.
Trumansburg, up 2 percent, or 31, to 1,828.
Freeville, flat with population remaining at 520.
For Ithaca/Tompkins

but for Southern Tier

I'm not surprised, as Ithaca/Tompkins County is hot in terms if development and population growth right now.

Of course it depends on the numbers being used. here's an article from the Ithaca Voice with a less optimistic view. The declines are noted for a 2014 to 2015 comparison. One must remember that these off year numbers are only estimates. The declines are not very dramatic, but might possibly reflect Tompkins becoming less affordable for many folks:

This makes sense. An item (with video) about a way to maintain the City Cemetery. I know it's not exclusive to Ithaca, but I'm surprised the city didn't look into this sooner.

Maybe next time I'm in Ithaca I'll grab a six-pack and head to the old stomping grounds too (an article from the Ithaca Voice):
