Uniqlo to open 10 more stores in PH this year
Business Inquirer
2:07 am | Monday, February 11th, 2013

The Uniqlo store set to open in SM Pampanga will be slightly smaller than the existing outlets since it will cater to a market where the Japanese brand is not yet well known.

“Pampanga is a good market, urbanized and has a good population size,” Kobota said.

With the rollout this year, Kubota said Uniqlo was on track to its target of having 50 outlets by the end of 2015.

The pleasures of Pampanga
Published on Sunday, 10 February 2013 20:39 Written by Ma. Stella F. Arnaldo / Special to the Business Mirror

PAMPANGA is not just your destination for the annual Good Friday procession of penitents, bloody from flogging their own backs with sharp bamboo sticks, before being crucified just like Christ Jesus (Barangay San Pedro Cutud, City of San Fernando).

The province has more entertaining festivals, lots of recreational spaces, a wide array of shopping possibilities, hotels and resorts for that quick getaway and, more important, a sumptuous selection of native dishes readily available at decent establishments.

Clark International Airport as Asia’s next ‘aerotropolis’
1:41 pm | Monday, February 11th, 2013

MANILA, Philippines–With the world’s economic center of gravity rapidly moving eastward, there is increasing urgency to develop Clark International Airport into an aviation hub, and this is the focus of a two-day conference to be held this month at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.

“The Case for Asia’s Next Aerotropolis” is the theme of the Clark Aviation Conference 2013, a trade gathering that will examine Clark’s compelling case as an aerotropolis, an idea in community planning where airports serve as the center for new cities growing around them.

The conference, being organized by Clark International Airport Corp (CIAC) in partnership with Global Gateway Logistics City, takes place Feb. 21-22, 2013, at the Widus Convention Center in Clark Freeport Zone. It coincides with the annual Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.

“The event will highlight Clark International Airport’s critical role in easing air traffic congestion in Manila and driving economic expansion in Central Luzon. It will also identify infrastructure and policy developments at Clark Freeport Zone that are designed to attract airport-related businesses and investments,” said CIAC president and CEO Victor Jose Luciano.

“More importantly, the conference is a call for the full development of Clark International Airport as an aviation nerve center in the light of the economic growth in Asia.”

San Fernando Council named Philippines' best
By Jovi T. De Leon
Saturday, March 9, 2013

THE City Council of San Fernando was named the Philippines' most outstanding council and has formally entered the Hall of Fame in the Local Legislative Awards under the component city category.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) conferred the award -- the third for the 4th City Council – on Friday at the Mall of Asia.

President Benigno Aquino III, in his address read by DILG Undersecretary Austere Panadero, reminded the city councils on the "need for sustained dedication and commitment that the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo had wanted to encourage in pursuing the Local Legislative Award program."

Vice Mayor Edwin Santiago said the recognition reflects the Council's commitment to the pursuit of excellence and quality in its legislative mission.

He said the City Council's performance was the result of the "harmonious relationship" between the city legislature and the executive sector.

"The city executive and council work hand in hand for our vision for San Fernando to be a Habitat of Human Excellence. The council constantly consults the masses through public hearings before we pass codes, ordinances and resolutions because we know that they are all affected by legislations we pass," Santiago said.

The 4th City Council of San Fernando qualified for the national award after topping the provincial and regional selection earlier this year.

DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan said the selection was based on comprehensive criteria that included: effectiveness of the legislative agenda; legislative tracking system; availability of legislative documents; efficiency of performance of the Sanggunian; and quality of office set-up and staff complement.

PH’s first bullet train
NEDA Also Re-evaluating JICA-Funded $1.23-B MRT 7 Project
By Mark Anthony N. Manuel and Chino S. Leyco
Published: April 18, 2013

Manila, Philippines --- The country will soon have its first bullet train after the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) announced that Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) has expressed its intention to finance the $3-billion Clark-Metro Manila project.

Another project, the $1.23-billion Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) that will run from San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan to SM North in Quezon City, will be financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Both projects will be built under the BOT scheme.

The plan for the bullet train is to construct the new railways between the lanes of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) because an earlier proposal to construct it parallel to the railway was scrapped due to some technical problems.

Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) said the project will be called “Express Airport Trains” which will have at least three stops in Metro Manila.

CIAC said that using the proposed trains, it will only take about 45 minutes to transport passengers from Clark to Manila, and vice versa.

The planned stopovers are Balintawak or near TriNoMa or SM North in Quezon City; Manila like Dimasalang or University of Sto. Tomas; and Makati at Buendia Avenue.

Giant Lantern Festival is 2nd best tourism event
By Ian Ocampo Flora
Monday, October 7, 2013

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- This city's Giant Lantern Festival has been named first runner-up for Best Tourism Event, Arts and Culture category city level, during the National Pearl Awards held in Legazpi City over the weekend.

The award is a first for the province in the 14-year history of the awards, spearheaded by the Department of Tourism and Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (Atop).

City of San Fernando Provincial Tourism Officer Paul Arwin Lingat and City of San Fernando Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan received the award during the convention in Legazpi City, Albay.

Lingat said that the despite strict guidelines and difficulty of the competition, the province still managed to be part of the best entries in the competition.

"We are very fortunate to place second in the competition since this is the first time for Pampanga to join the competition. Majority of the provinces sent their entries but never made it to the finals," Lingat said.

In San Fernando, Pampanga Century Properties expands its wings in CL
By Roger M. Garcia

Upscale residential and business district developer, Century Properties Group Inc. expands its development portfolio in key regions outside of Metro Manila, and has chosen the competitive city of San Fernando, Pampanga to be one of the strategic sites for its future town center project.

In a statement, Century said the strategic location of the property makes it ideal for its planned mixed-use development with residential, commercial and institutional components.

The acquisition of close to 8 hectares of property— in the Capital City of Pampanga from the House of David Realty and Development Corporation to build the said mixed-use development—will form part of a city or town center that the company envisions for the area.

The prime property will be positioned by Century as a future Central Business District in the north.

The Pampanga development is currently being master planned, and the listed property firm estimates a sales value of Php 6 billion from the residential portfolio, which will target end users from the middle-income market segment. Funding from the property acquisition came from a portion of the proceeds of Century’s equity placement offering in March.

Located north of Metro Manila, within the San Fernando Interchange on Jose Abad Santos Avenue and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), and is situated across the SM and Robinsons malls in San Fernando City.

“Many have expressed interest in developing the House of David property because of its strategic location and vast business potential, but we believe that Century Properties is the right company to do this collaboration with as we share the same family and corporate values.” said Ladislao David, Chairman Emeritus of the House of David Group.

“We are pleased with the successful sale of the property to a real estate company with a proven track record of delivery and innovation,” David said.

“Likewise we are confident that, similar to how it has masterplanned its projects in Metro Manila, Century Properties will also build a world-class urban center in San Fernando Pampanga that our fellow Kapampangans and the rest of Central Luzon will be proud of, “David added.
