Yup. I remember as a kid in the 90's, seeing a lot of old people playing the giant chess pieces there.

It's too bad they removed it. :/

I also remember when Woolco was in Garden City Square right across the street, and when it was an ACTUAL mall at the time. I remember the restaurant where Staples is today, as well as walking through the mall in dark, yet brightly orange lit interior, all the way to Woolco from Safeway. Speaking of that Safeway, it took them almost 15 years to finally renovate that store.

Now it's just a strip mall...

I remember going to some kind of "Adventure City"/"Discovery Zone" type place when I was really little. It was either in Northgate or Garden City... Does anyone know what this place was called?

I remember something with that EXACT title in Osborne Village, near the site of whats now the SW Transitway. They got rid of it in 2002 I think

ahh yes dark zone.

me and my friends had those tags. It used to be so awesome when it was more dark, then they lit it up a bit. I think my friend was responsible for that lol...he hit one of the employees cause he got scared (remember they dressed up as monsters?) - employee bled and everything, but couldnt really get mad at him cause he was a lil 'un at the time

We were all like 8 at the time. But DZ was awesome.

I remember discovery zone by polo park, but I never went to adventure city.

Yeah, the place I'm talking about was really similar to DZ or Adventure City (with the ball pits, tubes, etc.), but just on a smaller scale, and somewhere by either Northgate or Garden City...

Dark Zone, Adventure City and Discovery Zone was cool. As well as Chuck e Cheeses and a prime Topoggio. I feel sorry for todays kids because they have nothing.

Your numbers are wrong by 50k (more in Regina's case) on both counts (check the census thread on the Canada board)

Hundreds of buildings in Winnipeg will be turning 100 over the coming 18 months.

You can find the year on the city of Winnipeg assessment database. The exact month would be somewhat more challenging.

To get the age (year built) of your house, try this link. Just type in your address.

For the month, you need to dig a little deeper and get the city archives to search for stuff about your house, check out henderson directories, etc. We managed to get copies of our building permit, architect and builder info and a plumbing sketch... no drawings though unfortunately.

I managed to find the obituary of the original owner of our house from the 1920s (which also explained that she died AT our house...).

I noticed that there is demolition fencing around the "Good Neighbours Senior Centre" on Henderson.

I think at one time during the old Metro Council days the building served as the East Kildonan City Hall.

That was the way it usually was at the time, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
