I never liked that tower. It really messed up the old downtown skyline. I really don't mind boxes but this one is ugly. I hate the exterior.

Yeah, this is one of my favorites. I love the color and texture of the facade. I enjoy structural design in buildings, but really what makes them interesting from street level is the facade detail even when it's hundreds of feet up in the air.

A remarkably 'easy-to-hate' building...but not for me. I usually hate buildings that look displaced but this...Midtown orphan just works.

I like the building too though it's posision is horrible. And it makes the skyline look ugly when looking south. Especally how it seems to block the view of the beutiful bank of manhattan.

At that time, the area around the building was saturated with lower structures. But many of them were later demolished, weren't they ? I think I can picture an empty plaza at the southern foot of the tower.

I love this building. A rare modernist gem downtown. Calling it a "box" is a horrible simplification, especially given the wonderful colors and depth to the facade. It has such a commanding presence.

Does anyone know if there is ever a possibility that this building can be demolished? If not now can it in the future when it is really old?

Why are you asking? Are you wishing harm on it?

It's a landmark. Legally, it cannot be demolished. Ever.

Crap. Why would anyone turn this big wall that blocks such beauties into a landmark

There are worse buildings downtown than this one. The light color of it makes it have a smaller impact on the skyline. Imagine if this thing had been black like some of the other towers downtown.

Obviously it's the facade that makes this building so interesting, but a reflective glass would be cool since it would reflect so many architectural gems in the area. I'm not a fan of boxy towers, but this one is different. You have to appreciate the facade to appreciate the building.

No! No! No!

I never want to see another NY skyscraper demolished. Ever.

It's a living museum. Walking the streets elicits thoughts of the 1900s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, etc., and it will just keep growing bigger and better and more dense.

I want to punch the people who knocked down the Singer Building.

Because this building overturned the 1916 setback resolution and ushered in a new era of architecture into the city?
