I sure wouldn't want to be stuck in that station during the Big One.

DEASINE I truly like the fact that you created a line going east from Waterfront station with a stop in Gastown, that would be awesome to have a line east to Douglas College, Cool

I think my tram idea would be a lot more cost effective.

Run the train along Barnet without digging instead.

I've met people who think Stanley park trails are Wilderness.
its like a guy i knew who lived in the west end saying - what go beyond granville street! are you insane why on earth would anyone do that

Here's another map
http://members.shaw.ca/mikefeaver/re..._23-Apr-08.pdf

The S-series are supposed to be similar to the Dutch NS around Amsterdam/S-bahn/RER/etc. It's pretty similar to lightrail's map (and also not to scale).

Here's my stab at a comprehensive transportation network that encompasses various modes:

Note that it is still work in progress.

K so I've updated my Transit Metropolis Vancouver concept. It's version 2.0!

It uses a combination of SkyTrain, LRT, Commuter Rail, and Streetcars. I also wanted to put in aerial trams, ferries, and some bus routes, but they aren't included here yet. I guess that'll be version 3!!!

SkyTrain network

Light Rail network

Commuter Rail network

Imagine the routes extending further east and north... Didn't want to draw the lines all the way....

Streetcars

Streetcars with the Commuter Rail network

Streetcars with the Light Rail network

SkyTrain network with the Light Rail network

Commuter Rail network with the Light Rail network

Commuter Rail network with the SkyTrain network

Commuter Rail, SkyTrain, and Light Rail networks

The full networks + all the major transfer hubs

The light rail network looks nice, but for the street car.. did you take into consideration about their operation, like maintenance, repair, storage, and spare? The plan you have doesn't seems to be able to operate efficiently. The network scattered all over metro Vancouver, and since streetcars can't goes off the track/wire, there are a lot of connecting tracks needed to link the network up... or up to 17 depots are needed (Vancouver, Surrey, Ladner, North Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay, Richmond, North Burnaby, Lougheed Mall, Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Surrey Central, White Rock, Langley, and Fort Langley). And even with all the depots, the Horseshoe Bay and Pitt Meadows line, for example, require a separate group of workers to run the line with 1 train and 1 spare... and what if both trains are out of service...

Another issue I've found is.. why are the street car routes so short? Short routes mean more transfers (as if we doesn't have enough already). Unless the bus route are still there that duplicate the service, from what I see, going from Cloverdale to Willowbrook needs streetcar -> light rail -> streetcar (single bus ride on #320, #395, #C70 now, and #364 next year). Similarly, to get from Port Coquitlam downtown to Port Moody, you need streetcar -> light rail -> skytrain (single bus ride on #160 now). I would suggest linking the Port Moody line to Coquitlam via New Port village and Guildford, then to Port Coquitlam via Lougheed (like the current 160 peak hours routing).

And also, I know the bus routes isn't out yet, but why aren't Granville and Cambie(?) line go all the way to Marine Drive. Is there trolley route that run along side with the streetcar, or another short route that continue from where the streetcar left off, or no service at all? I remembered there was a short bus route #109 that connect Brentwood Mall to trolley #9 at Boundary loop, where a single bus going back and forth along Lougheed Highway all day. Translink ended up dropping that route because its inefficient.

WOW, you have an amazing ability on these map things......I'm jeolous!!

Anyway, it looks good but the LRT from RAV to White Rock would be expensive and not needed, infact it would be much slower than the RapidBus.

I don't think Vancouver needs any streetcars except the False Creek one.
Also the WCE can be made all day rapid transit using the new bus/commuter trains. They are use in Prague as well as other European cities. They are double articulated buses that can can run on roads and/or regular rail lines. That would be all day rapid transit service between MR and downtown with a probably stops at Commercial & Main.

Para, the second narrows rail bridge isn't connected to the CP tracks along Burrard inlet. It goes under Vancouver heights and connects to the BNSF line near Gilmore station. I guess that could be changed but there's no need really

Might as well add this. skytrain + regional rail

One comment would be - for the Hwy 99 LRT, I realize that you're probably located it to be included in anew Massey Tunnel link, but I think it would be better used if it passes through Ladner rather than sticking to Hwy 99 with streetcar links (i.e. currently it's a park & ride line, even with a streetcar link). On the Richmond side, maybe it could run up No. 4 road instead of Hwy 99 (with a Hwy 99 allignment, you're just asking for redevelopment of farmlands on either side of the highway).

Very very good points. I will adjust it with your proposed alignment!
