An update: This tower will be 588 meters tall, with no spire. I talked about it with Marshall Gerometta, the database coordinator of CTBUH. He contacted KPF, and the guy there said it is going to be 588m tall. He did not say whether it is U/C or not, but the images are enough for CTBUH: http://buildingdb.ctbuh.org/index.ph...building_id=54

Design #2 is hideous; #1 however, while definitely looking 70's, is not bad. Especially if you like the 70's.

I continue to be stunned by the number of towers in the 1,500 - 2,100 ft range that are going up in China with relatively little fanfare.

I like this design. It has that art-decoish vibe but still modernistic. I'm not sold on the goldish color though.

I agree on this design, like a neo art deco.. I friggin love it. If I had the ability to put up supertalls myself, they'd look similar to this one.

Which height value is now correct: Thornton Thomasetti (the structural engineer) says 648m at the website. The newest rendering on KPF's website shows no spire (one of my friend (from CTBUH) requested at KPF, and they told him it is going to be 588m). CTBUH says 648m.

If that is indeed the final plan for this tower it will hands down be my favorite skyscraper to ever exist.

So this building will have nothing below grade? The photos are confusing because it appears there has been no excavation, am I missing something or is the plan to excavate later? Where are the piers?

No, images from SSC show no activity at the site. I suppose it's on-hold.

If you want to put a Chinese skyscraper into Manhattan then please take the Shanghai Tower, Kingkey Finance Tower, ICC, Two IFC or the West Tower. Their design looks a lot better.

Recent shot; no activity at the site for weeks or months:
