there are many examples like
yc condos, bay Adelaide east, E condos, etc.
YC Condos and E Condos were both initially proposed at over 200 metres. Planning staff cut them down.

As reported on UT, the application with the city is for 48 floors. I don't yet know the height in metres but based on the design, I'd guess that it's just over 200.

Here's the latest rendering of Wellesley on the Park from UrbanToronto's twitter.

Details from interchange42 (admin at UrbanToronto):

The whole building has been narrowed a bit to make the park even larger, so the 6 new storeys are to make up for the smaller floor plate of course! That's come about from further talks with locals and the councillor's office, and in fact Bruce Kuwabara credited Kristyn Wong-Tam for pushing for "anything but a box" in the first place on this design.

Meanwhile, the balcony detailing has been tweaked more too. There are now two floors of offices in the podium. The community facility that was going to be built over the Opera Place garage entrance in the northwest corner of the site has been dropped, and instead the garage entry will be disguised with a green wall and green roof. I've been insisting that the east wall of Aria's podium at Opera Place be screened with green too.

City Planning is crossing their fingers that the legal work can get done before the end of the summer so that Council can pass this before the go into election mode. A stratified transfer of the surface park area to the City needs to happen before any work can start on the park, some of which could open before the tower is built as the parking garage already exists beneath it.

More images coming next!

I'm not seeing where you're getting that idea from what I posted.

Apparently, the supply of single-family-detached housing has become constrained in Toronto, and there was sales growth of only 2.5% in Toronto for February. Meanwhile, in the condo market where there is no supply constraint, sales were up 12.5% in February year-over-year. The cost of a single family detached house in Toronto is now $935,000 dollars, second only to Vancouver in terms of average cost. (Vancouver - $1.395 million per single family detached house) Average cost of housing in Toronto (all types) is now at $500,000.

That may account for some of the brisk business we've been seeing for the Big Yonge Street Condo Projects.. 1 Yorkville, YC Condos, Core Condos, Yonge and Rich, (20 Lombard), etc, etc,

I'm not sure how someone can judge the quality of an unbuilt tower from nothing but preliminary renderings that don't really show any detailing. The only difference is the angle and lighting.

Source at UT says nothing is imminent at Oxford Place but the project is still active and Foster+Partners is still involved.

It's still nice to know the project is on the table though.

Not really news. Oxford Place is just a name and building site. No indication on what they have planned.

The Foster Design was just a ploy to squeeze in the Casino?

No Casino means they can roll with Page and Steele, no harm. They did a pretty good job with Southcore Delta, just need to scale up.

It's not an either or situation. It's not the casino plan or nothing. We knew from day one Oxford was going to redevelop the property. How big and extensive remains to be seen. It may be a slightly altered casino plan or something that bares little resemblance. I guess the news does suggest they may be ready to submit for rezoning if they haven't already.

Nothing is imminent should be bolded.

Like whippersnapper said this is and will indefinitely be a development site, however like I said before what we saw last year is highly unlikely to come to fruition. If you look at Oxfords U/C and pipeline they are likely quite hesitant to take on more growth considering how much they have just put to market.

No surprise Foster is still involved, they paid for the design, now I would expect a local firm to take over as architect of record, cut the project down in scale and look for some value engineering.

I would rather wait 8 years for the original Foster design to get built than for some stumpy mediocre 200 meter building to break ground this year.

Neither will break ground this year.

It's not an either or thing, from what I've heard the plan as we knew it is shelved.
