I don't see why you think it looks so horrible its better then ultra. Plus this isnt the tallest building for the area so its not the landmark tower. Personally I'm just excited to see so many building planned for an area.

Big signage up at the corner of 98a and king George (south of holland park) which looks to be a massive high rise. It was dark and I was just turning so I didn't get a good glimpse but it looked to be tall like the civic plaza... Anyone know anything about this?

I thought that Holland Pointe was on the backburner for now? Of course, it's entirely possible that it's suddenly come back into play, but I'd have thought that there would have been more of an announcement by now. At any rate, I hope that it happens soon if only for the roadwork.

I walked by today and the sign is for Holland Pointe... It's a large sign advertising retail and commercial lease space in a mixed residential building and displays their website.

That's good news then. I've really been wanting this project to go ahead just to get the road extension in place. Plus, y'know, more towers!

By the way, something strange that I've been noticing is that it seems like a lot of development is happening around King George and, to a lesser extent, Gateway, while nothing much is going on in the immediate vicinity of the Central SkyTrain station. Of course, we do have the city-run projects like the library, but it just seems like private developers are staying away for some reason. Which is upsetting, since the section on the east side of the station could really use some rebuilding.

its probably because its easier to develop in the other areas, there are much more easy to develop areas right now plus surrey central is to become the downtown and probably has zoning requirements developers don't want to touch yet

And it would depend on the availability of the land.
Landowners may be waiting to sell.

I do think that I read somewhere that part of the issue across from the skytrain station had to do with the weirdly shaped plots for the stores that are there currently, which would require a massive buyout of all the businesses on the block in order to properly redevelop it. Hopefully that happens at some point.

Good point - land assembly takes time and effort.

Yes that's part of the issue at Surrey Central Skytrain. But the Surrey Central area isn't devoid of tower developments. You have a new tower in development beside Ultra in addition to the 2 Wave towers, 2 Bosa towers on the North side of 104th, 1 Bosa tower on the South Side, and yet another tower between Ultra and Central City. Combine that with 3 Civic and that's 8 more towers within 2 blocks of Surrey Central.

Immediately by the skytrain though for sure. I would like to see the Safeway site redeveloped to get rid of the giant parking lot, and as has been mentioned right across the street from Surrey Central between Parkway and KGB the lots are all strangely shaped so they would need to be purchased by 1 person and redesigned.

Someone had said at one point Surrey itself is trying to do this aka buy the swath or land or have someone buy the land sandwiched by East-West KGB, City Parkway, and North-South 102, 104th.

The next 5 years if things keep going well and we don't have another crazy crash look good for downtown Surrey. 8 towers above, add to that 3-5 for the Gateway area, and 3 approved, 9 proposed for King George, if all are built in the next 10 years that's 25 more towers.

Given there are already 17 towers as of today, in less than 10 years you could have 42 towers built which is starting to be a bit more respectable.

Any updates on the two towers that are planned for 108 and King George? The ones that'll knock down those crappy minimalls and hotel?

Lotta great pics by Yellow Fever at SSC dated March 25th.
Decent glazing and the big canopy roof element is progressing nicely.
