This new "enviromentally friendly" project in Miami's design district was recently approved and images are out. The building will be mixed use, 25 floors, with condos starts at $400,000. While most 25 story condos aren't a big deal, this buildings design is going to raise more than a few eyebrows. Groundbreaking set for July 2007.

I like it. The wind turbines do not look hideous or out of place at all(think Tour Signal and the hideous 'hair' on that thing). Looks kind of like a regular box from the outside with the pattern of circles being the only thing a little unusual (but not bad at all). This should go very well in Miami.

OMG This is an incredible design. Very exciting, its like the "design" that gives the design district its name. I really hope it gets built. Reminds me of some buildings in Tokyo, and we always love anything environmentally friendly.

Miami is a city that can pull off eccentricity like this. In Miami, I like it. In Boston, for example, I'd be appalled.

Thanks for the update!...this is the one I was wondering about in the devolopment thread. I only saw the first top portion view though in CITY magazine, now that I see the whole building view I really wish they would of made the "cut outs" more organic and not just simple circles toward the bottom but still very nice, I would take this one in Chicago in a heartbeat!

i could not imagine being a miami resident/businessman and having to see this every day. i thought bad taste like this went away in the 60's? oh god....

it just gets me that so many Green buildings are of horrific designs. it brings down the entire Green building movement everytime they release something liek this. surely a building can be visually pleasing and still be Green. this is scary....

Very cool and very Miami, looks taller than 25 stories. Is it 25 stories sitting on top of parking? the bottom floors look different. Build it!

^^"Weird" ?! This is not weird, its a quite beautiful and unusual design, but not weird, I have always perceived the word weird as being a derogatory term and I hear it so much on this forum when creative designs are put forth...you know What I find "weird" are cities that are more comfortable building square tradtional high rises that don't inspire or push the limits of design, now thats weird!

I have a tremendous amount of respect for architects and devolopers that are willing to put forth dramatically different and progressive designs, it may be swiss cheese to some or weird to others but this is what we need more of in America, architects willing to break the mold.

Reminds me of links in a bicycle chain. Not a bad thing, but it's what first came to mind. I do spend a ton of time biking, so that probably ahs somethign to do with it.

I like the design. It certainly is different. Is that exoskeleton structural, allowing a much more open floorplan, or is it just a facade? Thats what it would come down to for me.

We have plenty of architects willing to break the mold. What we don't have is many Planning Departments willing to let them.
