it looks like there is framing around the perimeter of the roof of 1918 for a crown structure. It's amazing how massive it is!

I don't think there is a "crown" per se, just enclosed rooftop equipment space but I might be wrong.

Yeah, after looking at renderings I agree with you MSeattle....mechanical equipment enclosure is more likely.

The P-I's reporting that the developers are planning to start construction on 1200 Stewart next year. It's two 36-story towers - condos, hotel, etc.

Interesting. I thought the design of this building was a gray-silver glass with flat tops.

Not much but it's something. Looks pretty good but this was taken around 9:30. It seems kind of dark for a residential building at that time... It also needs that fin lit up! Badly!

Looks nice. Lighting the fin might be nice but not critical. It reflects light fairly well in your photo.

Even full buildings tend to look surprisingly sparse. For example, it's 9:54 and my old building, near 100% full, has about 20% lights visible. Plus, 1521 has a lot of residents with multiple homes. That's part of it at least.

Folks at the Market are interesting regarding 1521-- first most of them hated it, but now most of them love it.

It seemed like only yesterday that there were something like 20-odd cranes visible downtown. Kinda sad in a way.

Yeah, now there are only about 20. Oh wait.

I kid, but the fact is we're still awash in cranes. It's just that they're mostly for lowrises/midrises now.

So I went to Volunteer Park last Sunday and I went up to The Water Tower to get some shots. Here's the basic, always photographed, Denny Triangle/Belltown/Retail District.

Here we can see....
-Aspira, which is wayyy thinner East-West than North-South. I always thought it was too fat but not anymore...
-Escala [background], which has some pretty nice views. Didn't think one would be able to see it from Capitol Hill. Specially with the mess in that area!
-1918, look at that thing! It's HUGE! The Met looks tiny next to this building. I hope it looks good. Sometimes big buildings look bad, out of place, and in a residential area specially. But seeing it's little brother, I think it'll look fine.

And then we have West 8th. Sorry I couldn't get all in one picture. Well, I have a picture with all the buildings U/C in a single shot but I had already uploaded these so oh well... Anyways, I thought West 8th would look classier. More "professional" and "sophisticated" but it didn't turn out that way.... I do though like the spire and the small "dividers" connected to it.

Some more shots from today... unless specified.

I was driving when I took this picture [yesterday] so I couldn't get the shot I wanted. It looks amazing from Spring and far away. From up close it looks really good too but it amazed me how it looked 5 or 7 blocks away!

And more from today! Here's 1918 8th [tallest with crane], West 8th [Teal building with spire in foreground], Aspira [farthest building to the left] and a little bit of O8 and Olivian [faaarrr background]... Of course, we all know this, but good information for others.

As we can see in these pictures, the facadr on 1918 looks very, very similar to the facade on it's smaller brother. No surprise though. I do notice some small color change here and there but the pattern looks exactly the same.

And Aspira of course...

The crane on 5th and Yesler is going down [taken yesterday].

Olivian is looking good!

Mehh... why call them Heron/Pagoda Towers when they can be called the 5th Avenue Towers?

Good grief, they're still building them?

Build them yesterday!

Also, 5th Ave Towers seems snooty. Very very snooty.
