Very cool thread. Looks like a less expensive version of Croatia and Greece. Sometimes when places get all touristy, you lose some authenticity, although a lack of tourist infrastructure and safety are concerns, too. I might have to visit before they adopt the Euro!

Over at SSC, there is a comprehensive list of major construction projects in the capital, Tirana. It's pretty impressive, and also obvious that a lot of foreign capital is being pumped into the country...and not just new building construction but also considerable investments in infrastructure and transportation improvements.

i was thinking about going to albania, so especially nice to see this fine thread.

did you see the abandoned pyramid in tirana? could you get inside of it?

Yes I saw the Pyramid of Tirana. Graffiti was all over the place. I saw peaple climing the roof. This was at nightime and felt a bit spooky

Nice photos.

The Albanian Riviera is actually really beautiful, as the geography isn’t that different from neighbouring Greece. And you can find some nice seafood along the coast. It’s the built environment that generally sucks, having been mostly constructed by successive socialist governments.
