Sunday shopping killed all sorts of commerce. Idiotic nonsense. Even kids with tin foil hats could tell Sunday commerce would come eventually. All NS was doing was shooting itself in the foot. So terrible really. It made me FURIOUS.
I moved to Toronto with my Ikea furntiure and even there they didn;t know much about it in the 80s. A missed opportunity...maybe different now I hope. I nevber shop there anymore...but still.....
That is symptomatic of so much about here, sadly. The negative, stuck-in-the-mud attitudes, the unwillingness to ever change anything, the clinging to the past... it is all of this sort of attitude that holds us back.

I don't think personal attacks like this are justifiable.

Keith is certainly entitled to his opinions and you shouldn't be trying to embarrass or humiliate him.

Flame wars shouldn't be allowed.

Mods- where are you????

Hey!

My traffic circle comment was totally in jest. I have a lot of respect for Keith and frequently support his views.

This comment doesn't really reflect Keith's POV though?

Interestingly, SUV ownership is quite high by left-leaning people in Halifax.

Anyway, I think he may be even a bit ambitious to remove the barriers to progress

I had an idea: Is it possible to create a "downtown employment property tax rebate" where property owners would not have to pay a certain percentage based upon the businesses that are their tennats and the amount of FT people they employ.

This way, it would actually hurt owners NOT to have their retail spaces filled and the economic spinoffs for the city would be increased or zero-sum tax income and more people actively coming downtown and working.

Exactly what I was referring to. A flavor-of-the-month concept among traffic engineers that has no benefit for the users, most of whom despise the things.

Park Lane Mall

If I'm not mistaken, Park Lane Mall has been sold not too long ago. Has there been any talk/rumours of what will happen to Park Lane? Any word of new stores coming to the "mall"? Or any renovations?

You missed a few though. No big deal, it was pretty junior-level trolling at best. I was quite happy with my replies and those who helped out.

Has anyone heard anything more on the Barrington Espace retailers? They were supposed to be announced late February...

Needs is going in and a gas station is going back, but I suspect Empire will give it the Fast Fuel label instead of Shell

as it is so close to a Sobeys

Jesus, that's disappointing. Tearing out a gas station to build a new gas station. Step forward, step back. (I know we need gas stations, but they're already plentiful around here.)

it's hard to sell what used to be a gas station without years of monitoring

United Express in the Scotia Square food court appears to be closing, they're liquidating all of their merchandise.

There are many people on social media claiming that Mic Mac's Hudson's Bay store will be opening a Topshop store this year. This would likely include their mens' store Topman.Topshop/Topman is a Bristish high-street fashion chain that have been opening in the top Hudson's Bay stores in Canada or as stand alone stores (Hudson's Bay has the exclusive rights to their Canadian stores).
