Development in this area is so needed...The DT needs balance. This area is seen from I35, the road that showcases the city

I agree. If this area gets built as planned Austin's skyline will have three more or less balance peaks:

West End - Seaholm/Green
Central - Congress Ave, aka Austonion and neighbors
East End - Rainey

I'd be so excited/relieved to see this finally rise. Being just across Lavaca from the kinetic energy of the Warehouse District, the lot in its current state is such an anticlimax. I'd just love to see this add new venues and feed off of and into the energy of this particular stretch of 4th.

...not to mention the fact that this would do wonders for Republic Square, along with the courthouse and any development on the post office site. Republic has the most potential of any to become an iconic public square for Austin (something every world-class city has/needs) and I can only imagine the night-and-day difference if it were flanked on all sides by new development and retail/dining outlets.

P.S. I've seen that soil-drilling rig in the lot for the courthouse off and on all week. Would love to see some sort of earth-shattering project be revealed as we head into fall.

I know I've been against this one, but for the sake of Republic Square being a more active destination I think it should happen....The warehouse district is in a lot of ways stuck in this small city mode that can't accommodate a ton of people. This is off subject, but does anyone know if that 3-4 story multi-use project is still happening at 4th and Lavaca? We saw renders about a year ago.

Well.. I'm kinda not excited to see the designs. I don't have great hopes design wise. But I'm where you are.... fingers crossed for something not "ugly" and for ground level retail etc. that will face the park.

Last I heard it was but didn't hear anything about a timetable for construction.

I don't know if anybody noticed this, but he site plan was finally approved and released in late July - prior to all of the finish out permit requests. The elevations are on pages 40 to 42. But there doesn't seem to be any changes from what was originally proposed.

It looks like it's going to have nice details incorporated into the facade. Super excited for this one to get rolling!

Nice. Those elevations show the facade detail better than the ones we had seen before. I can't see that the heights have changed, but it looks like they removed the flagpoles. That's kind of a bummer. I thought it would have looked cool with some flagpoles since we have so few of them in Austin.

No news about the Austin ZaZa. But WTF. Check out these links about Room 322 in the Houston ZaZa. If this is legit, I'm really liking the ZaZa:

I was reading the comments in which was hilarious btw. For me personally I tend to like the room, gives it a creepy vibe for a good night stay.

That's great news, but I wonder what date it will fall on? Sorry I'm anxious for this one to start.

Woooo!!! Hell yeah!!

This was one of my favorite ones in the works. Great infill. Gonna fit in well in the area and enhance the prominence of Republic Square Park by leaps and bounds.

Cool. We could use a little more faux art-deco.

WEEEEEEEE oh thank god. I was really pulling for this one!

The Warehouse District is going to feel like the center of the universe with Colorado Tower, 5th & Colorado, and now ZaZa surrounding it on nearly all sides.

Yeah I don't see any faux Art Deco here.
