Ok, I'm not an Aurora defender, but Toronto has what looks like exactly the same setup and price as Vancouver's Aurora Festival. Do they qualify as a big city?
I went last night. We liked it. It wasn't amazing, but lined up with my expectations. It is unfortunate that there is a high entrance price, and most items are still pay inside. The highlight was definitely the ice "river". It was a nice layout, and a pretty good size for something that is temporary. It's not every day you get to skate around in downtown Vancouver, outdoors. I've been to Robson rink. It's much smaller, and crowded as hell. We skated for at least 45 mins and I could have stayed all night.
Other stuff was nice. Go early to avoid lines, and of course the lights look nice at night. Rain would be a real PITA so I'm glad we went when we did.
Kids of a certain age will like it. They have a few characters and stuff for pictures and interactions. Bring your own skates to avoid the rental $$. Food trucks are the same you can find anywhere else, avoid most except maybe the treats. They sell booze all over the place so you can get loaded and walk around the park, which seems to be important to a lot of people (for a high price of course).
We spend our money on experiences more than stuff, so this was fine, if pricey. We do a lot of the free activities too, and they are typically crowded AF.
I'll say this is objectively the best winter attraction in the city, regardless of cost, since that's a different metric for everybody.
