It's going to be a very high class office tower.

Hudson Yards unveils new contemporary art

JANUARY 24, 2019
BY DANA SCHULZ

Quote:
According to a press release from developer Related, the complex has unveiled large-scale contemporary art installations by three renowned artists–Jaume Plensa,
Frank Stella, and Joel Shapiro. “I have always been passionate about the impact art, sculpture and design can have on our lives – the memorable experiences they create
and the warmth they bring to the places we live and visit,” said Related chairman Stephen Ross.

Frank Stella, perhaps best known among the group, started his career in the ’50s primarily as a painter, but beginning in the ’90s, he got into large-scale sculptures
for public spaces and architectural developments. His latest endeavor is two “abstract structural sculptures” in the lobby of 50 Hudson Yards, the Norman Foster-designed
tower that has the title of the city’s most expensive office building.

Here, he used digital modeling to “explore how subtle changes in scale, texture, color, and material can affect our experience of an object.” These unnamed works
are made of painted steel, aluminum, and fiberglass.

Unnamed by Frank Stella at 50 Hudson Yards

The lobby looks so mismatched from the exterior. Apart from the art.

I’ve never seen wood incorporated into a Manhattan office building.

Debevoise & Plimpton heads to 50 Hudson Yards

February 1, 2019
DANIEL GEIGER

Quote:
Debevoise & Plimpton is the latest large office tenant to land in Hudson Yards.

The law firm is close to signing a deal to move its current office on Third Avenue into around 450,000 square feet at 50 Hudson Yards, a 985-foot-tall office tower rising in the West Side neighborhood, several sources familiar with the negotiations said.

Debevoise will make the move in 2022, when the $3.8 billion skyscraper—one of the most expensive ever constructed in the city—is complete.

The firm is the second large tenant to commit to space at the 2.9 million-square-foot spire, which is being raised by The Related Cos. The investment firm Blackrock agreed to an 850,000-square-foot anchor lease at the property in 2017, worth a total of $1.3 billion in rental payments for the 20-year term, that permitted construction of the tower to begin.
Quote:
The law firm is one of several major office occupants that have taken space in the emerging West Side neighborhood in recent years. Demand has been so brisk that Brookfield Properties, the builder of the $4.5 billion mixed-use Manhattan West complex between Ninth and 10th avenues, just revealed it will raise the second of two ground-up office towers on the site without first securing a tenant to anchor the $2.5 billion spire.

Agree. The wood in the lobby render, on the other hand, looks great. All these all marble lobbies, especially if they are white, make me want to vomit. The wood looks modern but warm. Very refreshing.

Hudson Yards' Most Expensive Building Is Close To Landing A Large Law Firm Tenant

February 4, 2019
Miriam Hall

Quote:
One of the city’s most anticipated new office buildings is close to landing its second tenant. Law firm Debevoise & Plimpton is planning on moving to 50 Hudson Yards, Crain’s York Business reports, where it would join investment firm BlackRock. The deal is for around 450K SF at the tower and is close to being signed. The company would move from its current location on Third Avenue in 2022, when construction is expected to wrap up.

Developed by Related and Oxford Property Group, 50 Hudson Yards will span 2.9M SF and cost around $3.8B. BlackRock signed up to move its headquarters there in 2017, paying around $1.3B in rental payments over 20 years, according to Crain’s. That same year, Mitsui Fudosan acquired a 90% stake in the building.
Quote:
Debevoise & Plimpton is the latest of several major companies that have decided to move to the west side of Manhattan in recent years.

Time Warner is leaving the Time Warner Center to move to 30 Hudson Yards. Law firm Skadden Arps will leave 4 Times Square when its lease expires in 2020 to go to One Manhattan West. L’Oreal USA moved its staff to a new headquarters at Hudson Yards in 2016 after 60 years in Midtown. Pfizer will move into 800K SF at Tishman Speyer's The Spiral office tower from its longtime Midtown East home on 42nd Street.

What a fortress of a site. Just utterly massive.

What we need to start seeing, on a side note, are towers with 4 mil-sq ft of residential. That should be the future aim if the zoning is adequate.

Why is this building so much more expensive than the other HY buildings? Doesn't 30 HY have just as much office space?
