^ Agree, this has nothing to do with London.

We build too much parking in Chicago, as if it’s 1970

Time to revise zoning requirements

Guys, I'm all for reducing parking, but for developments that are going to have a big box retail tenant and are literally at the end of the largest freeway offramp/onramp in the city I think a 2/3 to 1 parking to unit ratio is pretty darn good. You can't expect zero parking even if most cars are self driving. Some people are going to continue to own them and they are going to want the convenience of being able to haul their shit on demand at a moment's notice. It's simply not practical to have a zero car environment when you have thousands of small cities and towns spread around the Midwest separated by hundreds of miles. I have one and will probably always have one because my family is spread around Wisconsin and Minnesota, I have a vacation home in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin and the soon to be wife is from Des Moines. No car isn't even an option for me. That said, I don't expect to be able to roam downtown freely without paying a premium for parking, but I do expect businesses that want me to patronize them to have some kind of option to park if I'm buying large or numerous items.

^ Fuck your stupid car, and to hell with Des Moines and Wisconsin!

And to hell with big box stores

Down with cars. I’ve had it with them

On the brown line yesterday, I spotted a large building-sized hole NW of Old Town Park I and II, but still part of the original site. I couldn't get my phone out in time to snag a picture, but if anyone is on the train today, they should try and get one. I don't think it's the foundation for the third building nor does it look like a staging area for construction equipment. Any ideas?

New construction building permit issued for 450 W Belmont (Belmont & ~Pine Grove...not too far from Sheridan/LSD). 18 stories, 80 units and 48 parking spots. Looks like they may have added a floor to this but decreased the unit count by 15.

Here's something on it from 2016:

SE corner 14th and Wabash

Foundation work underway on this 2-building project (15 and 10 stories, I think)....don’t know if both buildings are going up at the same time....anyone know? Also, unless I’m mistaken, I think there still have been no renderings that have surfaced....

I'd guess they're going up at the same time - and they were both issued the permits on the same day. Based on who's developing it, I'm going to go with a lot of concrete and glass... but I haven't seen a rendering either.

Could be good. Meets the street well, no terrible parking podium. If the ground floor is glass with retail, this could fantastic.

^ LOL that building is literally the 2018 Chicago real estate market. A massive bulky apartment tower for the lumpenMillennials and then a miniature little condo building for the handful of startup founders and hedge fund folks.

I thought they had permits to start the apartment conversion. I haven't walked by in a while to see if there's been any action.

I didn't see any but I didn't look very deep.
