Thumbs up

Hi Forum Buddies, this my first ever post so be gentle with me!

Been a great fan for a while, checking out the great updates on this thread.

Very impressed with the content that Slugbelch provides (great job)...and malec too (even if you do bicker like a bunch of old women)

What's the delay with the new pics guys? I could have walked there by now!

Slug.....any news on any new technology they will have to implement in this beast of a tower?

Must be a logistical nightmare to get even the most basic tech stuff online and functioning. eg (aircon, telephones, hydrants, alarms, cctv, heating, etc)

Any news?

^ There are two threads on SSP for the tower. Here is the other one:

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=61955

It gets a little more updated than this thread since it is in the highrise construction section, but this thread will last longer, so keep stopping by.

By the way, here is a TV commercial on the tower:

Now at the 70th floor and at a height of 244.188 meters tall, the Burj Dubai Tower has now surpassed the 241.4 meter tall, and former WTB the Woolworth Building in New York.

It held the title of WTB for 17 years, beaten by 41m in 1930 by the Trump Building and in the same year the iconic Crysler Building buy a massive 77 m.

http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?...uildingIDorder)

Look out for the next former WTB passing (Trump Building) by my calculations at level 81

Should be around about the 8th October

Can't wait!

Burj Dubai reaches level 70
Tuesday, September 5, 2006

Burj Dubai, the iconic super tower developed by Emaar Properties at the epicenter of its Downtown Burj Dubai, scaled 70 levels. Anchoring the 500-acre AED 73 billion (US$20 billion) mixed-use development, the super tower is billed to be the world’s tallest when completed on schedule in 2008.

The AED 3.673 billion (US$1 billion) Burj Dubai blends retail, commercial and residential spaces, and is a pioneering example of Dubai’s entrepreneurial vision, architectural capabilities and engineering prowess.

Burj Dubai is adding a new level every three days. Over 3,000 workers are working on-site. More than 200,000m³ (cubic metres) of high-quality concrete and 38,000 metric tons of steel rebar have been used so far in the construction.

Designed by Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), Burj Dubai is being constructed by South Korea’s high-rise construction experts Samsung Corporation, and Turner Construction International is the project and construction manager. “Burj Dubai is poised to become a global icon and engineering marvel, as it sets a new benchmark for architectural design. Drawing on inspiration from the hymenocalis, a desert flower, and patterning systems embodied in Islamic architecture, Burj Dubai will be elegant in stature and dynamic in function,” said Emaar Properties Chairman Mr Mohamed Ali Alabbar.

Ongoing projects within Downtown Burj Dubai include The Old Town and Old Town Island, The Dubai Mall, Burj Dubai Business Hub, The Lofts, Burj Views, South Ridge, Burj Dubai Boulevard, The Residences and 8 Boulevard Walk. The development will be self-sustaining with a 24-hour lifestyle and a buzz that percolates right through the residential, retail, business, entertainment, leisure and dining facilities.

^ You'll be lucky if you get an update once every 6 months from that.
But it's interesting to explore the area with it.

Great point.

I'll add it to the top page. Have you got a direct web link to the construction site? That way, we can just click once and bingo.
