Uh-oh. Two tweets of roundabout trouble in the past hour or so. Watch out if you're driving in those areas.

Read in the Metro today that HRM is starting work on a new roundabout in Burnside at the Burnside Dr./Akerley Blvd. intersection in the summer. Not sure if this will help anything really.

I am willing to put money on what at least one forumer will think of this...

They were saying on news 95.7 this morning that this is the first step in the Burnside-Sackville expressway that has been promised for the past 150 or so years (ha ha). Seems like they are promising that work will start in 2015... hopefully this time a promise is actually a promise.

The expressway and the roundabout are on page 4 of this document (which is actually page 7 of the pdf).

As far as the usefulness goes, I'm not sure what it'll do at peak traffic times, but at least it will save waiting at the light when going through there at night...

According to this HRM document this roundabout will not be here but instead will be here, connecting Akerley Blvd. to an extension of Wilkinson St. It will be part of the double-roundabout Akerley Blvd/Wilkinson St/Highway 107 Interchange when the entire expressway is complete. IT will have little to no effect on current traffic operations.

That makes more sense. Thanks for clearing it up.

It should be clarified that at full build-out the Burnside Expressway will have no less than four roundabouts.

Akerley/Wilkinson/Hwy 107 will be a dual-roundabout interchange.

Burnside/Akerley will have a roundabout constructed when Phase I gets underway.

Rocky Lake/Duke will also have a roundabout constructed as part of Phase I.

The Hwy 102/Duke/Glendale interchange may have roundabouts installed. I can't remember if it was determined to be justified or not.

Other than these intersections there are no official plans for any other roundabouts in Burnside. Any to be built in the area have to take into account the dominance of truck traffic which require larger radii circles and other special considerations so I doubt many will be constructed. With that said though I would like to see a traffic study done for Wright & John Savage.

This is the one I was thinking about in my original post, but then figured I must have misheard it. Thanks for the clarification.

I drove past here yesterday and the only changes so far are those pictured above on the North Park St end. You can still exit d/t by the logical choice of route i.e. Rainnie Dr. Once that is taken away, good luck to you.

How can it be a roundabout if it is not round? That does not look circular to me.

It looks like the roundabout will be in the background. This picture is focusing in on the road that comes down from Citadel Hill.
